I had that awful clatter noise that sounded like rocks in the primary or something like that. I wondered what it was and was recently told about the crappy compensator. I replaced it with the screaming eagle one for about 300 bucks. I will test drive it tomorrow. Hopefully all is great and that noise is gone. I was suprised that they didn't put a screaming eagle compensator on a screaming eagle bike (2008 FXDSE2). Cheap bastards!

I sold my '09 SEUC today and agreed to install a SE compensator as part of the deal. When I was done and took it for a test drive I was quite surprised how much beter it sounded on start up, and with some load on the engine off the line. The clatter is gone. Sorry to see her go , it was a great bike, but I still have two CVO touring bikes.

Approximately 18K and $caboom$. I replaced the cheap "stock" compensator with a SE unit and all is good. I did have the typical clatter at 26-2800 RPM thing. I assumed it was piston noise but now find the engine quiet after the repair. There should be a recall on the design because of the danger of wheel lock up. I hear this is somewhat common. The SE compensator designed is a much different design and is stock on all 2011 bikes. Basically the spring disks are held in place by a metal can on the outer diameter on the "stock cheepo unit" and the SE disks are locked in place at the center shaft with out the need of a can. The overall integrity is much stronger also. Failure is imminent mostly due to wear.  Finally let me say the power delivery, shifting and start up is smoother and the "rattle and clatter" is also gone. Hard to believe I put up with the noise for so long (it started at 500 miles). If you notice the typical "110" clatter get worse, especially at start up...look at your compensator.

This sounds so much like my 2009 110 with 4900 miles.  starting sounds like gears grinding sometimes.

Hello, yes this is a great product and the people over at BDL are even better. We've worked with them on some development of our newest model M6 Automatic Primary Chain Tensioner, the BT-07 and it works great with their compensator. Please have a look of an install on one of their shop bikes. http://www.haydensm6.com the video posted is an install on an actual BDL bike.

Please contact us with any questions, we're here to help.

Do not use the BDL compensator on an 07 up touring bike with cruise drive.  You'll be sacrificing your crankshaft.  The whole reason the MOCO went to the SE Compensator (which they are struggling to make survive) is shock load protection for the crankshaft.  The BDL compensator does not provide nearly the protection the SE Compensator provides.  The functionality of the SE compensator is fine.  It's longevity that is the problem...

What is the latest SE compensator part number?

The current SE compensator is 40274-08A...

The current SE compensator kit of replacement parts is 83935--09A...

Both part numbers are out of stock at most dealers, and are on backorder - which makes me speculate there may be another updated replacement compensator in the works by the MOCO...  I have no facts or inside information - just speculation on my part...  :nixweiss:

Scott-

I read on another forum that a new release version is due the end of August.  May or may not be true.
Just bought a 08A compensator, so being my luck, a new version is probably coming.  Bob

Does the 83935-09A kit contain everything for a replacement of the comp on an 09 bike?  I was about to order a 40274-08A  as my compensator is so noisy on startup that I get embarrassed if anyone hears it!  :(

The 08A has everything including the bolt.  The other number has the "hard" parts less the thrush washers and bolt.

The 08A lists for $249.95 and the other kit is $219.95..   Not worth the price diffeerence IMO..  I just installed the 08A..   My original on my 10 was worn out at 20,000 miles.  I would wait til the end of August to order to see if there is indeed an updated version.  May be released at the dealer show.

Yes, 20,000 miles on my bike too.  Hmmmm....... 6 weeks to wait, though.
