Title: TPMS questions
Post by: Alien on June 07, 2016, 09:22:14 AM
I am aware of the FOBO option, this thread is not about them!

I want to add the CVO TPMS to my bike (2016 FLTRXS). I have been told the sensors will not fit any other wheels other than the CVO wheels. Lets just assume that is the case and I would have to change to CVO wheels. Auto TPMS have adapters that allow installation into aftermarket wheels and I think this could be overcome.

The part numbers of both radios is the same. The flash 1.19.0/1.19.1/1.19.2 is different for the CVOs? I wonder if part of that flash has to do with reading the sensors?

There is no part number for a receiver, just the wheel sensors, blue tooth maybe?

If anyone has any information on this system I (and probably others) would appreciate it.

Also if anyone has a picture of the inside of a CVO wheel with the sensor installed I would appreciate it. A close op of the sensor would also be nice.

Thanks

I don't think this has anything to do with the radio.

the TPMS shows up in the odometer....not sure where the receiver is...but I am sure someone knows

It shows up in the odometer and the radio information screen. I have talked to a couple of great parts guys and they can't find a part number for a receiver?

I would also like to know how the sensor communicates with the radio? The radios are the same part number and the ECMs are also the same? Here is I pic of the sensor, #24 includes 9,25,22 and 21

That's why I am asking, nobody seems to know. I bet they would sell a lot if we could get it figured out? I have been told the 90 degree stem/valve only fits the CVO wheels?

It could be blue tooth? Part of the different flash for the CVO radios?

If anyone has the service manual for a 2016 model that comes with TPMS, the information you seek should be in that manual.  After all, if a service tech is going to be expected to diagnose and service the system, they will have to know where all the components are and how the system works.  I assume a competent tech in any dealership can also pull up that information on the official Harley tech web site.  See if your favorite tech will look it up for you.

I'm thinking the signal is processed in the BCM and then the result is transmitted to the display(s).

The signal from the transmitters is apparently received in a receiver incorporated somewhere.  I've been all over the harness schematics for the 2016 bikes and find no standalone receiver nor any connector for such anywhere.

Here is what they have on the TPMS

That detailed it Harry.  The doc specifies the BCM takes the data from the sensors and sends it on upstream to output.

Is the BCM unique to the CVOs or should it be able to be activated on any BCM?

And thanks for that info.

That acronym is the Body Control Module.  The fact of a BCM is not specific to the CVOs.  While the software within the BCM on different models could potentially vary making it such that some model bikes had functions that others could not the more logical scenario is that the various basic capabilities exist in all of them.  If that were the case might have to hook the bike up to Digital Technician at a dealership to turn some given capability on or off.

One must remember, however, that "logic" and HD design and development are not always in lockstep.  :huepfenlol2:

The BCM in the 2016 CVO's is a new part number (41000341), the 2016 non-CVO's use the same older BCM that all the touring models used in 2015.  I have no way of knowing if that new part number signifies a hardware change, or just a software change.  The price of the new BCM is $281, btw.  I'd want to know a lot more about what other changes would be required before I'd just start swapping out parts.

I would assume the BCM has a receiver built in to read the TPMS? Just a wild ass guess?

I guess I worded my reply in a confusing way. I know what a BCM is and that all the bikes have one. I was wondering if the CVO BCM had a unique part number and as the next poster point out, it does indeed have a unique part number.

Thanks for all the help. Hope to get this figured out. I do know more now than I did a few days ago.

Title: Adding TPMS

Is it possible to add the TPMS sensors from a 16, and whatever else is needed to make it work with the radio on a 14 FLHTKSE?

Try this thread:

At this point in time I haven't heard or read a definitive answer to the question of exactly what it would take to add TPMS to a Rushmore bike that didn't come with it.

New owner of a 15 CVO Limited here and was wondering if anyone knows if TPMS came on the 15 models?

Thanks in advance
