Title: 2020 CVO Vent
Post by: btharris24 on January 07, 2020, 04:02:34 PM
The one thing I wish HD didn't do was remove the option to close the vent on the front fairing..... When it rains and that vent is open it's like needles to the face. Does anybody know if you can get one from a 2019 that closes and replace the "always open" version?

They removed the fairing vents doors on the 2020 Road Glides and it seems like a few have replaced the entire assembly so they can close their fairing vents. I'd guess that it'd be a similar process with the top vent.

I would think, (though I don't know for sure) that if you got the complete air duct assembly (part #29200003 from the 2014-2019 touring models with the batwing fairing), it would bolt right in place of the current air duct on the 2020 bikes.

Looks like it's about $74.00 from New Castle.

That's what I was looking for, thank you.

I wonder how much money they determined they would save by eliminating that part?

If you install the new vent, let us know if it's just the two screws that require R&R to install it.

Am I understanding that they removed the top vent door on the 2020 batwing bikes and it's always open??  I know about the fairing vents on the road glides, but didn't know about this  :nixweiss:

Like mjb765 said, I knew about the elimination of Road Glide closable vent ( bad move ). But if they did it to the Electra Glide it’s even a worse move!

Yup. It's gone.

Sent from my boring Droid phone.

Unfortunately. Traded in my 17 Limited and got a 20 CVO Limited, the button to close the fairing vent is now gone. Harley said it didn't serve a purpose, I say they never road in the rain with it open...

I have about 75K on batwing rushmore bikes.  Lots of rain.  Played with the vent door a couple of times, and never noticed a difference.  It's a novelty, like the heel shifter.  Just one less thing to break...

I'm with ya on the heel shifter but definitely notice a difference when the vent is closed and it's raining with an open face helmet.....

Or, (and more likely) just a couple of more items for the MoCo to shave/save some money off of the new bikes.

… Remember a vinyl strap in place of a nice chrome grab rail for the passenger, and then turn around and ask 100's of dollars to add it back on as an accessory.

Sorry for complaining, but they've been nickel and diming us for far too long and the MSRP keeps rising!

Two more things that end up in the trash... :nixweiss:

That's true, Lew (hey, that rhymes... ;D ) but it's your choice to put them in the trash or not.  With the deletions on the 2020 CVO models, the MoCo didn't give you a choice, they made that choice for you and increased the price.  I wasn't aware that the middle vent on the 2020 bat and shark were now open 24/7.  That would be a game changer for me since I almost never opened either the top or two side vents on the '15.

I'm not ruling out ever owning another HD but it would have to be a BIG change to move me back.

Sorta like that quote from the movie "Arthur":
Linda (Liza):  A real woman could stop you from drinking
Arthur (Dudley): She would have to be a real, big woman

It would take a real, big change in attitude, equipment and customer service to get me back on a Harley at this point.

the top vent on the roadglide is still functional (for now).  it is just the side fairing vents that have been removed.  also, from what i understand, hd started removing the top vent on the batwings in 2019 with the electra glide standard.

i've seen at least one report where someone bought the fairing vents for the shark and added them to their 20 and it was a pretty easy process.  but, a totally unneccessary one at that (insofar as they should not have removed the vents, imo).  many say they don't use them, but i do.  if they're open, i get rain in the face.

I open and close my vents regularly. When it's cold out, they're closed. When it's hot, they're open. It was one of the reasons why I bought my '19 instead of a '20.

Wasn't a deal breaker for me but I'm seriously looking into replacing it with one from a previous model.

Just carry an extra bandanna and shove it into the vent from the front.

Bugs were a real problem on my Honda Valkyrie Interstate coming in through that vent, some balled up fiberglass screen door material solved that.
