That is a concerning statement. Does beefier mean higher pressure or more metal in the spring? Pressure is part of the problem with lifters on the 110 engine.

Oh come now gentlemen, you know the motor company spent countless hours developing this new variation of the venerable M8 engine. They would never release a product that could possibly jeopardize their long-standing reputation for longevity and trouble free engines.
I, for one, am fully and completely sure that these engines, along with the new infotainment system, will provide their owners with a lifetime of happiness.
I am also encouraged by the time and effort spent in developing the new location for the horn. In case you haven’t noticed, they boldly placed this marvel of Harley engineering down near the left floorboard, and wisely chose to leave it uncovered for all the world to see in all it’s polyethylene glory.

I’m hoping HD is monitoring the site Gary, and was hoping they might offer me a job in the marketing department, only I didn’t mention the fabulous colorways, like Dark Platinum , which, I believe, is French for “silver”.

So impressed by Shrader's logic on the new VVT engine I traded all of my bikes for half a new one. The rest of the new one is on layaway. Fortunately it's 116 brazillion degrees outside so not riding for awhile is ok.

We'll definitely have to coordinate this effort. I'll get the back half. Transmission and split saddle rearward. However..... This whole Hubbard problem has worried me for a long time. Instead of riding bitch with Harry we could just fit this new rig with a pink sidecar? Maybe get a pinstripe artist to add "coal-rider" on the outside?

I'm not too hopeful about "beefier" anything.
The engineers design an engine. A cost analysis is submitted and the company looks for ways to "save money". That means pressed cranks and cheaper lifters. This means changing the overall specs like runout from 3000 to 10,000. You know the rest of the story. As the engines got bigger the Harley engineers wanted to add oil coolers. However the design department rejected them as they took away from the clean lines of the bikes. So for decades oil coolers were an add on left up to the owner.
We've all seen this movie before.

Now, After Twolane and I have successfully derailed this thread.
Let's get back on track...
I am truly less worried about the potential spring/lifter issue than the VVT unit itself. Harley has never done new things well, with the possible exception of the VRod engine and its derivatives, so I fully expect this VVT unit to self destruct in an inordinately short timeframe. As long as it lasts beyond the two year warranty, HD won't give a Hubbard Baby Butt Flush.

And as usual expect the aftermarket to pick up the slack, (or poor design and manufacture issues) and come out with fixes for whatever fails.

Or.... on the less than expected likelihood that Mother Harley actually nails the design out of the box one can still expect the aftermarket to offer expensive alternatives as "upgrades" just because they know we are trained to buy them! :huepfenlol2:

No breathers in the new VVT heads. Its vented through the transmission to the air intake.

Nope Michael, you only speak the truth. I just hope they did a lot more testing before releasing the products to the public!!! We have been the Motor Company's test dummies for way toooooo long!!!

5800 miles so far. VVT motor is really nice, great torque curve. Motor software is pretty good so far. Its nice to set up a ride mode in between road and sport. Yes, we are beta testers on it.
The Infotainment Control Unit (IFCU) is great when everything is working as it should. This is where we really are the beta testers. It has bugs, several of them. None keep me from enjoying the bike, but can be frustrating.
At this point, I'm still very happy with the bike.

I'm sorry,...but we're celebrating accomplishments of 3,800 and 7,900 miles? Does anyone else find this unsettling? I mean would we be doing this kind of "mileage watch" with a new car or truck? No we wouldn't. We'd just put gas in it and drive it. But Mother Harley has us so whipped we make non accomplishments notable.
To everyone who has a new ride, I hope you all remain trouble free, I really do. It's just disheartening that we have come to this.

Rolled over 8,100 yesterday. I'm not really celebrating. Just commenting it's trouble free miles as so many have said it was going to have lots of problems with the new technology.
I'm very impressed with this VVT engine. It has a very wide torque curve, pulls very well. Gets good fuel econemy until you keep it above 80 mph. I do not expect any problems out of the engine.
