West Yellowstone, Bear Tooth, Chief Joseph

Left West Yellowstone early to head to Mammoth and then across to the North Eastern gate and Cooke City, WY on the Bear Tooth highway. Going to head south on the Chief Joseph to Cody, WY.

Found this guy laying down in a gully. Made a u-turn and climbed down to see him. Had not seen many animals up to this point. He was concerned that I was invading his territory so he got to his feet for a bit.

I just got back from a trip to Montana on the 14th. Your pictures are pretty much exactly what I saw....but didn't have the camera out. We didn't have any luck finding a camp site in Yellowstone, so we spent two nights in a cabin in Cooke City.....such a cool little town. If you find yourself going through there again, be sure to stop by Hoosier's Bar, and say hi to Rick, the owner. He's a great dude.

We had the pleasure of meeting the most gorgeous park ranger two days in a row on our way back in the Northeast Entrance to Yellowstone too. She was friendly enough to come out of her booth and take some pictures with us as well.

Beartooth Pass and Chief Joseph are just magnificent roads......I hope to make it back there some day. When you make it to Cody, stop by the Geyser Brewing Co. and try their home brews. Ruth, the bartender, is an excellent host as well.

Looks like an Elk's head facing to the left in the center of the photo.
