Time to open the Batwing
« on: August 21, 2009, 02:30:22 PM »

Thanks to you all I am putting in a Hawg Wired system upgrade but want to add heated grips while I am in there. I can't seem to find a "rumble collection" heated grip set in the catalog. Can anyone help me out?

Heat Demons brand grip heaters.  Someone will have to confirm they are correct for the latest electronic throttle iterations.  But if so they are a far more reliable product than the Harley branded heaters, cost less and you keep your existing grips.

Found this on Heat Demons web site on the installation instruction sheet

*For motorcycles models with the electronic throttle, the right side heater is installed
over the sending module which is installed inside of the handlebar. On some bikes like
the CVO Screaming Eagle models the inside diameter of the handlebar is smaller so
the Heat Demon heater cannot be installed over the electronic module. It is possible
to remove the handlebar and take it to a machine shop and have it reamed out to a
7/8” inside diameter.

Just thowing it out there..... :confused5:

Every grip I found says not compatible with internally wired handlebars. Isn't that what you have?

If you could obtain the P/N for them you probably would be able to get them, but the question should be why would you want to??? From the history of the many here that bikes came stock (from the MoCo) w/the heated grips that failed why would you want to?? :nixweiss:

One other reason the new exhaust flow does not have the cross pipe up top which eliminates the sweet spot behind my leg under the seat that I used to thaw out my hands...

Nothing wrong w/hope, but don't want you to go down the "road of frustration" trying to get the MoCo brand of heated grips to work (for longer then a season). If the Heat Demons mentioned above will not work w/the TBW (w/o major mods) then I would suggest getting some heated gear. :nixweiss:

I had dhd harley order the grips that are on the 2010 ultra same style. The parts guy had to look them up and put together the parts list to order them. They are not in the catalog.

Send a PM to site member Boatman.  Pretty sure he used the Heat Demons on a bike with an electronic throttle.  See what actual experience suggests is required.

I applied Heat Demons to my FLTRSE3. Must have 7/8" inside diameter for the heat element and the TBW Sensor to fit. I drilled mine out but was not easy. I would suggest having a machine shop hone the bars. Must be enlarged all the way to the wiring hole.
