help pls loud exhaust gotta go
« on: May 31, 2009, 07:19:37 PM »

here 's the deal I started with Vance and Hine true duals with the Oval mufflers.  Did not like the sound so I sold the mufflers and put on the Rinehart mufflers with standard baffles and reused the VH headers.  Sound is good, but very loud when you open it up.  also loud a highway speeds ..........

so now I'm looking to change out the pipes again. maybe i'm getting old  but the loud exhaust has to go.  so here's the question is there a good exhaust system out there that is not very loud and yet offers good performance as well.

I have the Vance and Hines Fuel pack on the bike and the breathers has been upgraded as well.

thinking about the D&D fatcats with the quiet baffle

thanks for the replies

 8) 8) 8) 8)

I had the D&D fatcats with the quiet baffle on my 07 SE and it is much louder than my Rinehart's with quiet baffle material added.

While talking to Fuel Moto about the PC V and AC upgrade, they indicated Rinehart's are easy to quiet down by adding a muffler materials wrapped around the baffle.

It was easy and cheap.  $35.00 dollars to my house.  Remove the end caps, relatively easy,  Then I used vise grip (or channel locks) and moved the baffle left then right then up then down.  Took a while but after about five or ten minutes it breaks loose.  The baffles are pressed in.  Once the baffle is out, take the quietening material (looks like spaghetti) lay it on the floor and wrap it around the baffle as tight as possible.  The more you use the quieter it will be.  I stuffed mine to the fullest.  Put the baffle back in to the pipe, replace the end cap and your done.  Two hours max and that was because i was a little cautious of the first baffle.  Don't have to remove the pipe from the bike.  It is a little scary when it breaks loose.

Sounds great, much lower rumble.

Hey 09 CVO folks,

Finally got my Pipes, PC-V and Stage 1 installed.  Bad side is HD shop had problems understanding the Autotune feature and didn't want to release the bike until they talked to PC folks on Monday.

The pipes (slip-ons)- I looked a VH Monster Ovals and BUB-7's and both sounded pretty good.  The BUB-7's are 3-1/2 diameter and the HD shop suggested I look at the Klock Werks 4-inch pipes (which no one had seen).  They are a little more pricey than the BUB-7's, but after hearing them yesterday I'm more than pleased.  They have the tone of the Monster Ovals, just not as loud.  I videoed the before and "will" the after when she is released from the HD doctor, hopefully Monday.  If you entertain the Klock Werks exhaust option there was one small issue with the right side pipe - it was too close to the lower shock bolt - the fix - a small soft press to bend the pipe.  Baffle will probably never come out, but they sure sound good.

Ride safe!
