Please vote - Chrome Radio/Gauge Trim Y or N?
« on: November 16, 2006, 10:58:07 PM »

Can't decide whether or not I like this piece. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Part of me says, "It's chrome, what's not to like?" [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]  The other part of me says, "That piece takes away from the bike's 'SEEG-ness,'" you know, that stripped-down look. 8-)  So, help me decide before I peel the tape off and am at the point of no return. I don't know Brian I sometimes think simplicity is better. [smiley=nixweiss.gif] Luckily when I did mines the piece you are showing wasn't an option so I didn't have to decide. I'm sure you've seen my option before, but to give side-by-side (above/below) look check this out...

Brian

That part of you that says,

""That piece takes away from the bike's 'SEEG-ness,'" you know, that stripped-down look"

Is right!

I'm of that opinion also. It just looks somewhat "gaudy" compared to all the other chrome trim pieces in there. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

Never have liked that piece Brian. It looks like something that you would pick up at the local auto parts store and slap on you car.

I went with what Dood has. The bezel trim and the radio trim [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

I did the same thing. Placed it on the bike and something didn't look right to me.

Brian-

I'm with the others.  I too went with just the radio trim, indicator light trim, and speaker trim and it looks good on a dark inner fairing bike in stead of the one piece radio trim pictured.

I have to agree with the others also. To me it is unnecessary chrome that needs polishing and that takes time away from riding.

No right or wrong answer, it is only an opinion.  I like all three pics shown.  With, Without and with the bezel trim.  Like Gary, it was not an option when I got the bezel trim so that is what is on mine.  I am not sure if Jamey has anything on his.  They both look great.  Bottom line, How do you feel about it?  [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I received the bezel trim as a Christmas present last year. I prefer it a little better. Ultimately your call.

Personally, I like the stock look the best, the bezel trim a close second, and don't like the big piece at all.

I have it, I like it....never ask something like this on this site....you will NEVER make up your own mind....just personalize the bike the way you want it.  Try it on the bike for a while and if you don't like it remove it...no big deal.  For me it's chrome and you can't ever have too much chrome.

Brian,

I went with the two individual pieces, like 'd00d.  In this instance, I really believe less is more.

Like most everything else Brian.......it just boils down to your personal choice. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I just looked at the poll again and two people have voted that they're you. [smiley=nixweiss.gif]  Actually, I'm surprised that that number is so low.  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

On the 06 SEUC I obviously think it looks good, but the radio face is different and the other chrome upper arch gives inner dash different appearance. Usually I do ascribe to the less is more, but I am shocked that on this website with all its OCDness that the outpouring of negative sentiment towards a piece of chrome is mind boggling! ( Either everyone has spent their XMAS bonus or their meds are working over time!) All kidding aside I would go with the bezel strip for the SEEG configuartion. John

John,
On yours ('06) it looks like it fits. With the chrome piece (eyebrow) as Terrry mentioned the piece on the radio doesn't look as gaudy. Nothing wrong w/us don't worry we just want things to be aesthetically appealing.

This has been fun!  I figured I would get some good comments out of this one, which is why I decided to start this thread.

Flyingwillie, in nearly 6,000 posts on this site, I have asked for a lot of opinions.  I always do what I want in the end, but I value the input of the folks on this awesome site, who have helped me make my mind up on items costing many, many times more than this! [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

Terry, you hit the nail on the head about the '06/'07 dash with the "eyebrow" piece on it.  When I saw Tommy's '07 SEUC in MV with this chrome trim piece, I thought it looked awesome!  But when I placed it on my bike to take a look for the first time, I was unsure.

So, thanks, everyone for the input.  Your votes, along with input from Mrs. tHunDer's (who voted with the majority ;)), have me leaving this piece off the '04 SEEG!

Also, since I do think this piece looks quite excellent on the '06/'07 SEUCs, I offer it to the first SEUC owner who PM's me telling me he wants it for his bike for the measly sum of $5 to cover the shipping cost!  My loss is your gain!

Thanks for the input!

Does this mean I need the heat gun?  I have it on the SEUC but it looks like I have Brians's blessing on that.

. . . Also, since I do think this piece looks quite excellent on the '06/'07 SEUCs, I offer it to the first SEUC owner who PM's me telling me he wants it for his bike for the measly sum of $5 to cover the shipping cost!

Never have liked that piece Brian. It looks like something that you would pick up at the local auto parts store and slap on you car.

I went with what Dood has. The bezel trim and the radio trim [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

To me it just looks like one of those stick on parts you see on some cars interiors, like fake wood.  I SAY NO.

I prefer the simple radio trim bezel, PN 74596-00 that others have mentioned.  http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442007901&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374309138363&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374309138363&bmUID=1165277184888&bmLocale=en_US
