Oil coolers worth the money? Service Manger at my local shop talked me out of one said the difference they make isn't worth the money??? Any thoughts?

I think it really depends on how hot your climate is as to whether they are worth fitting, and of course they dont help at all in stop go traffic, the engine of the springer is not hidden behind fairings and lowers like the touring bikes so your motor should run at reasonable hot temperatures that the synthetic oils are designed for assuming you have done the usual mods to breather, exhaust and electronic tuning

Ya Ive done the usual mods. Live in central Florida the climate is brutal. Don t do a lot of stop and go traffic with this bike, I guess I should be ok.

Anywhere you ride where it is ove 80 degrees I would use an oil cooler. Remember that in air cooled motors the oil is a cooling device. Even in stop & go traffic the oil cololer is reflecting the heat out. They absolutely help & are worth the money.
Now, once having said that, don't but a HD one. Look at the Jagg line of oil coolers with the thermostat in the adapter housing. Don't mount it down on the frame in nfront of the motor, it's too close to the road & picks up heat. Mount on the verticle frame tube to the left side of the motor. This lets air flow across it without picking up road heat.
One last part, run Synthetic Oil. Mobile 1, Redline or Amsoil. They help drop engine temperature also.

They are of no use at all since the unit itself will become as hot as the oil inside when stoppeed or in traffic. Your service guy is right.

Thats why this is such a great product. It keeps air moving thru the cooler while you are stopped in traffic.

Very quiet, 2 fans.
Seems to drop the temps about 10 degrees.....
Had them on my '09

I allways wondered why Harley so busy marking up their prices on everything they sell didn't stop and think of more engineering designs. I guess it takes smart people in montana to do that figuring!!!!!!!!!! :nixweiss:
