Stalling out at stop sign??
« on: April 11, 2010, 02:15:39 PM »

So far I have 275 miles on my 2010 SESG and it has stalled twice at a stoplight/sign.  My only engine mod is Boom Can slip on exhaust tips.  Any ideas as to why?  It does start right back up after it stalls.  Thanks for any help.

I'd take it to the dealership.

Hi DABB, did you find out why your bike was stalling at stop signs and lights? Mine is doing the same thing. When you take off from a light and roll the throttle it will cough back through the breather or backfire through the exhaust and stall. It will start back up and seems to be ok. I have a 1000 kms on the bike now. Took it back to the dealer at 300kms because it had stalled couple a times. They put it on the computer and said they couldn't find anything wrong and there was no new updates. Now it is stalling 5 to 6 times on a ride. Have an appointment at the dealer on Apr 30.

I have not had the problam again and do not have the same symptoms as you are describing.  I will just be at a stop sign and all of a sudden it will die.  Starts right back up and runs fine.  I am going to tune the bike and hopefully get it dialed in correctly in acouple weeks at Fuel Moto.  Keep in touch if you find anything out and I will do the same.

Same here, have 2,000 miles logged last week at around 1800 it stalled twice in a single day not since. It sometimes idles high as well after a short ride to lunch when restarted it will idle around 1200 to 1400 after a riding a short distance it returns to 1,000 / 950 rpm.

Only exhaust mods will be adding cams and SSERT in a few weeks.

I also experience a high idle as you describe??  Then it seems fine again.

not to attack any one on here, but are you sure it's not driver error? I started on a honda magna and when I got my 2009 FLHX I stalled out a bit. It's a heavy bike and doesn't have much power compared to most bikes. On a side note I have installed a stage one air cleaner, rineheart slipons, and the SEST. Also, I have to give much more throttle with any passenger. unless it's just dieing when you stop I would assume it is driver error. These are not powerful bikes (not in the big picture of the motorcycling world) and should not have too much expected of them. BTW my FLHX is well over 100X more comfortable than my magna and a million times cooler ( image, not engine heat, lol).

Not whats happening the stall is when you approach the stop with the clutch disengaged. Not when leaving the stop. Also when the idle is high you can release the clutch and the bike will pull away without additional throttle idling around 20 mph.

Appreciate the input

I was having the same issue with my SESG.  Would sometimes just die sitting at a stoplight with the bike in neutral.  I took it into the dealership and the tech thinking it was the tune, tried to retune the bike but kept struggling with the idle and constant throttle driving (between 2500 and 2700 rpms).  He decided to check the fuel pressure and found out that when the fuel pump charges the line to 60 psi (I believe he said), that the fuel pressure was bleeding off after about 15 seconds which it shouldn't do, causing my bike to not get constant fuel pressure to the injectors and causing the bike to be starved, then fine, then starved again for fuel.  He went into the tank and found that the "O" ring on the fuel pump was not seated properly when it was installed at the factory.  He properly installed the "O" ring and now the bike idles and runs fine.  Have your dealer check the fuel pressure off of the pump.  This could prossibly be a factory install problem.  :nixweiss:

It's the color.......should have got the big blue! :bananarock:

OK that was my attempt at twisted humor........I'll quit.

Sounds like it's something in the fuel management.  Are any of you getting a code when that happens?

That's where it baffled me and the tech...there were no fault codes displayed.  Fuel pump would do what it was supposed to, charge the line, but the pressure was bleeding off too fast...weird problem...

I had the same problem with my 2010 SECU. I change my head pipe (V&H Power Duels), 1.75 Fullsac baffles and TTS Master Tune and the problem is GONE.
