Title: 07 CVO Springer Windshield?
Post by: 07SERider on May 01, 2010, 10:16:56 PM
I was wondering if anyone has a windshield on their 07 SE Springer? I've looked at OEM windshields but they won't fit because of the mini-tach. Anyone making an aftermarket that will look good & fit with a mini tach? Or better yet does anyone company make an instrument panel w/Speedo & Tach so I can take the tach off the handle bars and mount it in an instrument panel along with my switch & speedo? Any help or pics would be appreciated thx!

Try looking in the H-D catalog at removable windshields. Wife and I have them on both of our 08 Springers and no problem with clearance of tach.
The brackets bolt to the side of the tree. This pic might help.

I had no problem installing the HD Compact detachable windshield on my 08. No problems clearing the tach, even though the HD catalog says it will not fit.

well it showed up today. I installed it in about 10 minutes and I think it looks about as good as a windshield can on a springer. I haven't ridden with it yet and probably won't until tomorrow but I do think that I will like it.

Hello Leeinmemphis!

I've seen your pics with the mounted Windvest windshield.

Can you tell me the exact part number of your windshield? Is that the 10-1036C (14" clear) ?

Thank you in advance for your info

Greetings   Laurent

Yes that is the part number for the shield. I ordered direct from windvest in case I needed to do a return. I hope to ride with it a little today to see how it works. I would probably prefer it to be a couple inches higher but I like the low profile look and it has to be an improvement over no windshield at all......at least I hope so.  :bananarock:

[DARK EAGLE can you post a few different angles of your 16' windsheild on your bike? i am 5'7 would i be able to see over this window? thanxquote author=DarkEagle link=topic=49019.msg730371#msg730371 date=1273663454]
There are a couple comments from springer owners on the Windvest.

Key is finding that sweet spot when setting the angle or you get too much turbulance.

Read 10" too short, 14" ok by most. I set my 2009 SE3 bars 1" higher with the 2007-2008 riser studs & considering the mini-tach, so I ordered the 2007-2008 FXSTSSE 14" direct from Windvest.

Wanted more deflection so talked with them on going with the Standard springer 16" wide using the 2007-2008 FXSTSSE handlebar clamps. Works a lot better & they had no problem exchanging but had to convince them the 16" was the way to go, still can see over windshield although I'm "average height" under 6'.

It is expensive but well built & nice eye candy with the clean look & chrome billett. Got the tinted version to compliment the black.

well I rode the bike last night and the windvest is going to be just fine for me. I only got up to about 60 mph yesterday but no turbulence at all. It really makes riding the bike more enjoyable.

So having never installed anything like this before... how difficult is the install?  I am guessing it isn't too tough since a lot of folks here seem to have done it in 15 minutes or so.  Are there any tricks or things to look out for?

I am thinking about purchasing and installing this one from HD...

Thanks!

I've just received and tested the Windvest windshield 14" on my Springer.

The windshield is pretty small, I've tested it up to 100 mph and it makes the job. I'm 5'92, the height is ok and allows me the see above the windshield, the width might have been a bit more wide to better deflect wind around shoulders.

One drawback comparing to HD windshields are the handlebar clamps. The windshield is bolted (Allen bolts) on clamps and this do not allow a quick release without the Allen tool.

The overall look is great in the sens that it is very discreet and integrates pretty well with bike. I appreciate that there is no metal bar across the windshield.

Here are some pics below

To Leeinmemphis:

Hello Lee,

Have you experienced a problem with the springers hitting hardly the support bar of the WindVest windshield when riding on bumps/potholes?

My has been mounted accordingly to the manual and very often the springers hit the bar and damage it, as well as upper springers bolts.

Please let me know

TIA   Laurent

by looking at the pic you need to reverse the clamps on the bars and it won't hit the spring any more. I did the same thing. Take care.

Hi Lee,

Thanks for your PM and answer here. I'll do that, nevertheless is it just stupid from WindVest to not clearly specify that in the mount notice.

I'm not sure of the part numbers. It is the Detachable Compact from the H-D parts catalogue. It comes with a bracket that mounts to the side of the tree and then the windshield slides into the keepers. I'm 5'8' and my wife is 5'2' and runs the same setup on her bike.

I've followed your recommendation, inverted the clamps and lowered the windshield. Now it works without hitting the bar. The only issue is aesthetic as there is a 2" gap between the headlamp and the windshield round cut.

glad it worked for you! Yeah I have the same gap but look at the bright side. You just gained 2 more inches of windshield.  :bananarock:
