Title: 2000 Classic SERG owners / Site Registry ( let me know if I missed someone)
Post by: martys on October 28, 2009, 07:47:42 PM
Hello Classic SERG owners,  My name is Marty and I have been combing the site to try to find as many 2000 SERG owners as I can,  for the purpose of starting a registry so that we can communicate with other owners with common interests.  I have tried to categorize you by bike color, but in some cases I could not figure out what color your bike is.  If I have made any errors or omissions or if you are in the unknown color category please reply with the correct info and I will edit the list.  Through my research of the site I have found 73 currently registered members that own one of the original Screaming Eagle Road Glide which is also the First Screamin Eagle produced in the CVO line for Harley Davidson.

THREE TONE RED                              EAGLE 1

Marty, just saw your 2001 list also.  Its columns are much neater than the columns for the 2000 model list here.  You're going to hurt the red bikes' feeling if you keep it like that!

At least on my screen now the reds are all dressed.  It's the orange and black next to them that look like drunken sailors trying to stand up.  They're probably just embarassed by their lack of red though.  Being in line next to that much red has to be tough on their ego...  ::)

Which color Bill?  Red ones are universally accepted as being the best.  But they're all good.

OK...could be we met at Arizonas Well since your around the corner from me we will have to meet up. I picked this one up in Ohio a few years back. Found it on Ebay. When I went to the guys house he had  3 RG SE's in his garage. A 2005 Yellow, 2001 and the 2000 Black and Orange which I bought. I had been looking a long time for a original 2000. This one had 7000K on it when I got it and only has 35000K on it now. I was lucky in that he had owners manuals, tool kit, bag inserts, and original shark tail exhausts.

Marty, I just purchassed/stole this wonderful 2000 SERG.  Tripple Red and it had 5600 miles when we rolled it out of the barn.  The original owner did have the lowers and shop manual and parts manual.   My first CVO.  I have owned 8 or 9 Harleys and this one is sooo nice to ride.  I haven't pulled my 03 wide glide out since the new/old red head joined our family. I think I have fallen in love all over again.

Anyone want a nice spare back fender at a reasonable price?  (please say you do please say you do)

If you're interested check the for sale section.  If the price is right I'll throw in one of 103's bikes :bananarock: !

No sweat Marty.  It's a spare spare.  So if you feel the urge sometime later give me a ring.  Warning though, the deal with one of 103's bike is only good for the next 24 :huepfenlol2: !

Triple Red in North Central Florida....15,000 miles  bought it in South Carolina about three months ago.  The second owner had traded for a Victory.  Go figure. This is my 4th HD and second Road Glide it's the best by far.

His loss your gain and its nice that it found a good CVO home. The only thing these last posts have in common is that folks hate putting miles on these beautiful bikes. There are still folks who stop me and want to know what it is and how to get one...easy just go to you local Harley dealer ten years ago or get lucky like we did.  Doc

I get the same thing... first question "What is it and who painted it.  When I tell them about it and that it is one of 685 and one of only 36 in Canada the second Question is "Why are you riding it" and we all know the answer to that question  :2vrolijk_21: :pepper: :pepper: :pepper:

Marty, sadly there's one less classic SERG for your registry.  One is being parted out to death.  You can get a partial VIN from the engine the guy is showing there.  :bigcry:

Posted this in the "third party for sale" section Marty.  Mentioned there that I'm going to try to score the side covers for a set of spares unless someone actually needs them.

His inner and outer fairing is far more damaged than I'd want to mess with.  The front fender has been drilled for trim I don't care for.  Both saddlebags showed some spider cracking in the paint if you look close.  So there not on my watch list.

I do have need for some primary parts.  So will at least watch his listing there (though those aren't at all SERG specific).  Of all his paint I'm just bidding on the side covers though.

Just had a thought (first one of 2010 :bananarock: ).  I'll copy and past this over to the third party for sale thread.  Everyone can compare notes there.

Thats a good idea TL "nice start to the new year"  keep up the good work  :huepfenlol2: :huepfenlol2:
I have a question now that you mentioned the Primary parts.  I have a loud "chirpping " noise coming from that area when I first ride and it only happens when I decelerate ( back off the throtle, down shift etc. )  It will do this until the bike warms up ( 10 -20 miles ) then it goes away untill the bike cools down again then starts all over again.  Ever had or heard of this problem before :nixweiss:

Yeah my Yamaha was like that, I put lots of miles on it in rain, sleet and snow... just washed with a power washer... guess buddy needed a Victory to ride in crap as well.

Now my new bike has so much chrome and looks so much sweeter, I have to buy cleaning stuff to keep up appearances.

Its -20 C here, snowing and I am going out to my new man cave (33 m long, 25m wide, heated with shower and crapper... now that is a garage) to do some cleaning ready for the spring melts :D

Going to have to drive down south and say hello in Viagra Falls...er  ...Niagara Falls,, :orange:

Can't make any specific guess from my desk.  But if you're hearing it from the primary there aren't that many (of the simple) things to try.  And they're all (mostly) easy.  Make sure the compensator nut is tight (though with your description that's not likely your problem).  Check the chain adjustment (might even be too tight from some prior adjustment attempt).  Either shoe wear or just needing adjustment are things to check occasionally.  If it's had the o-ring seal on the derby cover changed to a gasket I've also seen the clutch adjuster touch the gasket (it's metal sandwiched) and make a noise on accel or decel.

I will be looking forward to that visit Gank  :2vrolijk_21:  let me know when you can make it down so we can hook up for a ride :drink:  :drink:
Hey what is that hanging under you passenger FB :nixweiss:

This is the first time I have read through this thread, and I am very disapointed. Where are the owners of the original black and orange bikes at? Everyone knows the black and orange bikes are the chit. Always have been, always will be. To let the triple red owners carry on like this without being smacked back down to earth is mind-boggling!

Yeah Yeah Yeah, sure. So how long tell the MC changes their logo from Black and Orange to triple red? I just don't see it! Although I do like the blues a little, complete with their lack of Merelli.....Still not Orange, but nice in a low maint. way!

It's true, the orange and blacks can fit right in with the old HD standards.  Triple reds will just have to stand out rather than fit in; and do so proudly.  Merelli (sic) isn't so bad either; just have to dance with the one that brought you.  The 01 touring bikes (Blues too), by the way, were still Marelli.

Thanks, We are pretty much healed up, and Terry is out shopping for a new helmet. boots, jacket and ... so I guess she is ready to roll in spite of what she went though. She is also very enthusiastic to talk about what a great time we had on the trip and the friends we met...I'm a lucky man to have her.
I'm not having much luck getting progress reports on the bike and at the pace its going it probably won't be till January till its in the garage.  Doc

Cue the bugles.  Here's a wounded or potentially dead triple red:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=300496497575

Out of the original production there are four I know of that have definitely died.  Not (yet) counting this one.  Not counting Doc's either since it's currently undergoing resurrection.

Unfortunately if we look for someplace that even moderately splits the distance for you and Marty I won't get to go very far :huepfenlol2: .  But if an overall central location actually helps (or even matters) I'll setup the hotel again we used at Eureka Springs, AR a couple years ago.  Good facility and nice country to ride in.  Any clue when you realistically expect to the The Resurrection Machine back home?

Just joined this 2000 SERG owner's game....picked up a triple red Canadian bike with 12500 kms.  Already has Vance and Hines exhaust and oil cooler.  Love the bike so far and can't wait to customize it a bit.  Added a 12" Windvest (dark tint) windshield and some chrome but can't wait to build the sound system.  Got a Hogtunes tweeter set up and looking for speakers and amp for lowers and possibly saddlebag lid speakers too.  Any recommendations without spending crazy money for stereo or other "must haves"???

Marty and SERG owners, I just added a 2000 road glide orange/black/white SERG to the stable.  I've been looking for for a SERG in this color combination for quite sometime.  I'm looking forward to becoming an active member of this group.  I've enjoyed reading what everyone has written and I've already learned quite a bit from each and every post.  This bike ROCKS!  :bananarock:

Thanks for keeping the registry current Marty. I just resurrected my triple red again and its running better than ever. It ended up being a crank pin going out while at the Spokane GTG. I ended up flying home and coming back with my pickup and bike trailer to save the trip we had had planned to Glacier NP and the West Coast of Oregon and California. What I wouldn't do for my triple red.  :apple: :apple: :apple:

That's an unusual fail on the old motors Doc.  Sorry to hear that.  How much got done for the fix?  Choose to gain anything in the process?

I had to replace the low end including crank, rods, and pistons which comes as a balanced unit from the factory. Other than that it remains as a stock 95". It could have easily been changed to a 103, but I figured everything downstream would have been stressed so chose on the side of reliability.

Hate to read the problem happened on the road; especially so far from home.  Good to read it's running again though.  These bikes are worth the appreciation and the effort.

Congratulations.  It is always great to see someone get exactly what they are looking for.  Your bike is really the bike that started the whole Screamin' Eagle trend.  I was in love with that bike when it came out but it took until 2004 to finally get a CVO.  I know it will bring you years and miles of pleasure.

Hey, I just joined today. I've got a 2000 BWO that I bought about 15 months ago.  The rear inner cam bearing failed while 2 up with a group in North Carolina.  It was a big ordeal getting it home, and I've been gathering funds to get it running again.  Looks like that'll start in the next couple of weeks.

That was a big issue with the early twin cam engines.  Continued well in to the 2000 model year.

Have no idea if this is still the case and would assume it's not.  But for a time Mother Harley was offering some quiet extension of warranty service for this problem.  So many years gone now I'd not expect it.  But can't hurt to ask if such a thing is still ongoing.

Gentleman, First of all my apologies if you feel this topic doesn't fit here, but I thought I could get some valuable insite into these bikes from a group of owners. I was thinking of picking up a 2000 screamin eagel triple red Road glide to go along with my 06 ultra, and I have been following the
resale market, ebay, and others for quite some time. Are there any obvious issues i should be aware of with this model when I am looking at the bikes. There seems to be some great deals out there. Thanks

Have FatCats on the bike so none actually in service Lou.  Do have one pristine pair NOS in their boxes and one pair that's very good used mounted on the shop wall over the bike service area's work bench.  Just for decoration :2vrolijk_21: .

Personally I still think the triple red SERG is the best looking Road Glide ever produced.  #2 is the black and grey and #3 is tied between either of the orange and blacks.  The newer SERGs are nice looking backs.  But the fairing (especially) and the way it flows back to the tanks on the classic SERGs is a great look and a cool line.

Only "obvious" (known) issues that are of huge concern with these bikes are engine or engine management.

First is that the early twin cam engines have inner cam bearing issues.  That progressed in to the 2000 model year.  If you get a 2000 model bike and it's never had cams and cam bearings changed count on changing cam bearings.  Just to be safe.  Relatively inexpensive insurance against a failure that, should it happen, will completely ruin the engine.

Second is that many riders, especially this many years after the parts were current, don't like the M&M (Marelli) engine management system.  Of collateral concern is that parts specific to it will be allowed to go obsolete sooner than later.

The system isn't really that bad though.  It's quirky.  But if familiarity is gained with it the system is ok.  If you're considering seriously upgrading the engine's specs you can go past its ability to manage too.  Just something else to keep in mind.

There are options though.  S&S and Thundermax each offer kits that upgrades the Marelli system to newer Delphi including onboard o2 sensors; just like any newer Harley.  The kits work well.  The bikes work well with the kits onboard.  So either way the Marelli system shouldn't be a deal breaker.

...just to add to that I would mention the cam chain tensioners are another Achilles heal with the early twin cam engine. Many of us have changed them out to gear drive cams which would take care of the cam bearing issue at the same time.

Sure are.  I was being way too narrow considering just the 2000 early model bikes rather than issues that persisted.  If he wasn't familiar with the tensioners that's a big one too.  My bad....

Very much so.  The 99 and 2000 model bikes had the inner cam bearing concern and both had the Marelli ignition.  Same questions on both years so nothing new that is worrisome for you.

And my poor bike has been ridden hard and put away wet!!

It now has a 117 inch motor, most of the chrome is now Black Powdercoat. I do have all the chrome new and a fresh set of factory painted Fairing, Tank, Side covers, and saddlebags. The only painted parts I don't have are the single color lowers and fenders.

The Midnight Red and Luxury Rich Red for the lowers and front and rear fenders are old colors with mix codes readily available.  So they're no trouble should you ever need them.

No such thing as a bad looking classic SE Road Glide.

Just this morning early had to go to the local Wally World (pancake mix and bacon to feed a horde of 10 year old girls doing a sleep over with my niece) and saw an 01 black and grey running across the parking lot.  Had never seen it before.  By the time I got parked the rider was already away and in the store but I still walked around the bike.

Another bike that had also been well ridden.  Some clear coat missing and other stuff.  Still had the thought "there's no such thing as a bad looking old SE Road Glide."

Alin , how do you like the 117?

Every time I take SERG out for a spin I get people giving thumbs up or saying Look its got eagles!

Love this bike

Mixed emotions. I bought the bike new and except for exhaust and air cleaner I rode it stock for about 65,000 miles. Knowing about the cam chain tensioner issue I had aquired some woods TW6HG cams, cam gears, the necessary parts to convert to carb and a set of heads and cylinders reworked for the higher lift cam and higher compression pistons. Somewhere around 63-65,000 miles I heard a "noise" and knew it was time. When I tore into it the tensioners were shot with the outside one down about to metal.

It ran in that configuration until about 95-98,000 miles. It was weeping, leaking, popping and coughing and I didn't feel like doing it myself this time so I worked out a plan with a local well known builder for them to do a frshen up.

Famous last words. Upon dissasembly the lower end was found to be out of spec (loose). They quoted me a price to rebuild the lower end to stock stroke but in my wisdom I said what the hell the lower end is apart lets make it "BIGGER". I explained I wanted dependability, reliability and that I rode year round and all over the country (37 states so far) and could they do that? Sure they said and the work began. They basically did their typical 117 build and didnt listen to anything I said and of course blames it on the nature of the beast. Don't get me wrong the bike runs like a bear and is very quick, embarasses most of my friends and surprises many a foreign bike up to about 110/120 MPH.

I have been through 3-4 starters, a couple of batteries, a ring gear, and a few starter pinion gears. The bike will not start reliably under 50 degrees. So much for my trips. Many times I have woken up on a trip in NH or Maine to find frost on the bike in the morning but be 60-70 in the afternoon. They have had it in for the starting issue a few times (no charge) and it always starts for them. The bike is in their shop and the heat is turned off for the night but I doubt the shop ever gets down to 50. My bike is in an unheated shed that can be 30-50 degrees for days. I put a buddy heater next to it for 15-20 minutes if I want to go for a ride on colder days. After that initial start it will start fine all day as many times as needed but is one cold Bitch on the first start. If you don't get it on the first try you may as well change the spark plugs. Not a confidence inspiring situation for trips and adventures!

With all that being said it runs good and strong with no mechanical issues other than starter/pinion/ring gear. Alls Balls starters have been great about warranteeing their starters. The only starter clutch that works for any length of time is the Weldon HR1 and I swap that from one Alls Balls starter to the next. I keep a spare on the shelf and can swap a starter in about 3 hours. Return that one for warrantee and then put it on the shelf.

I have aquired all the parts necessary to convert to Delphi and am going to use the screaming eagle race tuner. The harness is from Dan Thayer. I have an HPI 58MM throttle body, a new in tank delphi fuel pump/fuel sender, a new coil, ECM. Funny thing is the shop just got finished doing the same thing to their shop bike due to some hard/cold starting issues LOL! They will be doing the initial start and tune after I install all the parts this fall/winter (want them to store it in an out building and gaurantee cold starting).  Would I do it again? NO I would have bought a 120R had the timken conversion done and lower end trued and welded by darkhorse. I would have used the delphi conversion on the 120R and still had my stock cases. But you know what they say about hindsight. Whats done is done and I do believe in the end it will be a fun reliable bike but it has taken a few years and is not 100% yet
Ask me again in the spring.

Hi Fellas  :)   Not sure how many have noticed a new thread on here put up by Chip, When did you purchase your "Classic SERG"? (http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=90679.msg1202037;boardseen#new) I think it is a really interesting read, and thought I would just bring some attention to it.  :coolblue:

Just found this thread, so I will add my info:

Bought a 2000 orange/black/white SERG new in 2000. Had "stage 1", Air filter, SE exhaust,  PCIII and dyno tune done by the dealer at the 1,000 mile service. I installed Heritage bars, Progressive shocks and Race Tech cartridges in the forks at around 15,000 miles, no other mods for the next 56,000 miles. At around 57,000, I checked the cam chain tensioners and found them 95% gone. Had my indie shop install S&S 510G gear drive cams.

At 84,000 miles, stator went out, replaced by dealer. At 130,000 miles in 2012 I started chasing electrical gremlins, found a few wires rubbed through or pinched, but the motor still ran great. Had a cross-country ride planned and was worried about breakdowns, then happened to see another O/R/B SERG on e-bay with only 14,000 original miles on it. The owner was a motor cop who rarely rode it, added some chrome but otherwise it was bone stock.

Bought it, changed the bars, added Progressive shocks and Monotubes, replaced the cam chain tensioners with the HD hydraulics and oil pump, basically set it up exactly like my "old"one.

I've put around 30,000 miles on the "new" one so far. I would have liked to keep the "old" one too, but having two bikes just wasn't in the budget. Added a Hannigan Sidecar and a trailer hitch couple years ago. That goes on for long trips, comes off when I want to ride on two wheels.

Wonder who will end up having the last one..... ?

Like the old Zager and Evans song:

In the year 2525
If a red SERG does survive
Who'll ride?

Ok, I better stop before I re-lyric the whole song.

They are such great examples of how the MOCO got it right that anyone who has one now will keep and take good care of it. They were the means of showcasing and jump starting the Screamin Eagle line of parts and represented a outstanding bargain out of the box. The graphics I hope will return someday, but only on a bike that's worthy...SERG, wet motor, sharkfins just for starters.  :P

I know we're preaching to the choir here but I couldn't agree more Lou.  Have always loved these bikes.  Still remember the first time I saw one now about 15 years ago.  Didn't know what it was.  Didn't know what CVO was.  Just loved the bike.  Mine now is still the most comfortable ride I've ever had.  Can always look forward to knocking down mile after mile on that bike.

The first time I saw one was in Kingman AZ while visiting the Harley Dealer. I couldn't imagine why someone tricked out a brand new RG and was selling it so cheap. I had to have it but this one couldn't be registered in CA otherwise my 98 RG would have found a new home. It worked out fine, the 98 is still in the family and after lusting after a triple red for a couple years I found a complete low mile one close to home.

My find was much the same Lou.  Saw one.  Fell in deep deep lust immediately.  But it was already sold.  No more to be had.  Still had a deep abiding lust the Road King I then had so it wasn't a terrible loss.  But it was still enough to make my little heart go pitty pat with the angst of missing out.

Always kept an eye out.  Figured a good deal would come up "someday."  Then someday happened.  Got a call from a buddy who saw this one listed on Craigslist (or some online site, don't remember for sure) an hour from my house.  The buddy was much farther away but the bike was close.  I learned of the bike late on a weekend morning and had it home that afternoon.  Low miles and a good price on a really clean unmolested bike.  Since then it's had a few minor upgrades.  But it was bone stock when I got it and even included a few extras thrown in on the side.  Seat and a windshield if I remember correctly.

I love the early model cvos.  Two lane,  is there a post here with larger photos of your RG?  I have never seen one of those up close.  The only RG Cvo around here is the all to common gold one.  They must have made a million of those,  or everyone was sold around here.

For me it was also a long time Lust affair, A buddy of mine put an advanced order in on a black and orange SERG before they were out, but because of the limited numbers he never got one.  I thought that was the nicest bike I had ever seen, until about 5 years later when I met a guy at one of our local bike nights, riding a Triple Red. Well that night I told him "if you ever want to sell"  he said he would not ... etc., but we became good friends,  then in 08 when the 09 SERG was introduced I got a call.  He said he couldn't keep two bikes, as he just bought the Yellow SERG and shortly after that My Dream Bike landed in my garage.   Like I said earlier ... it's going to be the coolest classic bike my Grandson will ever own  :2vrolijk_21:.

We're in the same shop there too Lou.  I've just go no interest in a new bike.  Partly because so disenchanted with Mother Harley itself but also because I just really really like the pair I've got.  Nothing to me looks better.

In many ways my 05 SEEG was "better" than either of the pair now.  At least the engine was stronger.  But when push came to shove and three was a bridge too far that led to boredom and monotony it was the one that went away as the Road Glide is the better road ride, and I just love the look of it, and the Road King was a project that was just way too new and too much exactly what I wanted it to be.

The only thing I wish we had that we don't and can't is ABS.  Everything else is either possible or I'm just not interested in.

Thanks for the appreciation KJ.  That Road King was a hugely fun project.  It's got some engine work since the day it first fired and is now a relatively sporty 98" as of this past spring.  In fact it got it's first full oil change at about 5000 miles past that work this last weekend and a rear brake upgrade recently.  So while it is "done" and ridden it still gets tinkered with  :2vrolijk_21: .

There is no such thing as done.  Ha ha.  If you can't tinker,  whats the point.  ha ha.  I know one thing,  We had our annual ride for autism (started because of my son), and my 01 SERG got more attention than any other bike there.   Something about them.  We had 21 bikes,  and about 6 cars with us.   I was tailgunner.  Had one guy stop on the way back to fix some riding gear.  So I waited with him.    We were doing some mph on the way to catch up.   He was on his new yammie stryker and at one point at a passing lane he was PEGGED,  and my ole SERG blew by him by a fair margin.  Best part I was no where near maxxed out.  She's got the top end.  And it pulls hard up there.  Now if I could just get my low end to stop acting up I will be happy.   I have to order plug wires etc,  no parts available locally for any Harleys.

Yest, I love my SERG.  I was not a Harley guy until I rented a Fat Boy... then I wanted a Harely... saw mine on eBay, I loved the colours did not know the history or anything about it I just new I had to have it.

Today I ride it as much as I can.  I would like to upgrade to a 6 spd.  I have to upgrade the radio, the stock one died.  But otherwise she is going strong.  I can relate to the lets go thing... I was two up with another guy on a 1200 Sportster... he had a hell of a time keeping up... could not believe my bike was 14 years old at the time and mostly stock

It always draws a crowd at Tim Hortons :D

This is my last bike

I'm not Marty but welcome to the site.  All the original SERGs are getting fewer and rarer.  You're the first addition to this thread in what looked like a couple years.  Rarely see these bikes out anymore.  Mine still gets ridden and it's still my favorite to get out and cover any distance on.  Red ones are the best of course.

I'm the original owner of my triple red SERG.  And of course I'll never get rid of it.  Rode mine again today.

I'm only second owner of mine.  It didn't get a lot of miles from its first owner though.  Any changes or upgrades to yours worth telling stories about?  Mine is kinda stock-ish.

I own a 2000 black/white/orange. So add me to the list!  First road glide, first CVO and I’m loving it so far.

There's a letter dated 2007 that Brian (103110Thunder) posted a long time from Mother Harley stating 685 red 2000 model bikes and 730 Orange and Black.  A lof of the names in your original posts to this thread are guys we never see here and who haven't been active for years and years.  I know it's very rare to see one of the old bikes on the road anywhere.  Around where I am there is one other that I used to see rarely but have not seen in at least 2 years.

Would be interesting to know how many of the now 19 year old bikes are still in regular service.  Hell, even in service at all; a few weekends a year.  On the other side would be equally as interesting to know how many have been lost to accidents or other damage or were cut up or parted out after their lifespan was presumed done (or they blew engines due to the early cam bearing problems catching up with guys some years later).

Mine is still the most comfortable-to-me bike I've ever had.  Fair bit of time went in to getting the seat just right and the bars just right and the screen height just right and the few other creature comforts in it to get it that way.  If I'm heading out somewhere more than a day trip it's still the bike I go to though, without even a thought.  Fortunately it's still mostly stock.

Don, up here in Southern Ontario I have seen probably 5 of the 2000's over the past 10 years but only 2 of them ... Mine and one Black & Orange, that were "Canadian" bikes, the others had speedometers in MPH rather than KMH.  I also did a little follow up research to Brian's letter, although I never did get a letter from The MoCo verifying it, of the 1450, CVORG's built for 2000, only 37 were  exported to Canada.  They could not give me a breakdown on how many of each colour, but I know the original owner of My bike and it was purchased here at the Niagara Dealership.  I wish there was a way to see how many are still actively licenced and in service.  You would think that their value would start to climb back up by now with collectors, with the low production numbers, and rarity of these magnificent machines.

From our mouths to God's ears Marty!  If only that were so...  :huepfenlol2:

Unfortunately and no matter how much we like them they are still little known outside our own community.  Their small numbers originally combined with years of attrition and things like Marelli and other parts going obsolete mean they'll also get more difficult to maintain; which means even those optimistically familiar will have less interest.  Screw all that.  We love 'em.  That's good enough.

Of course my bike isn't completely stock.  Have done a few things to offer concession to modernity and make service more feasible if I ever crap out away from home.  The old swingarm is gone, Marelli has been swapped for the uber common mid 2000s Delphi and a few other things to make it just a good easily maintained old bike.  Hell, if I ever get around to installing it there's even parts here for a cool engine upgrade as well.  Even that is done with reliability in mind as much as performance.  Though the power coated and diamond cut heads and jugs will certainly look cool.  As well as it handles the duty now it really will be a trailer pulling machine when I get a chance to get the work done.

There will be one downside to getting that engine work done though.  Even though it's mass is greater and it's drag coefficient is like a big person's butt compared to the Road King the SERG will be both quicker and faster than the SERK when the Road Glides gets it bits.  So the Road King will whine; and that will cost me more money (probably) next winter.  Oh well.....

I have never seen another one in all the years I’ve been riding. I’ve had mine only a couple of weeks and have been stopped and talked to more in the theee times I’ve ridden it than I have with any bike I’ve ever had.

I wasn’t even looking for a bike when I found it and didn’t know anything about it till I got it home. I just had to have it the second it was pulled out into the sun shine.

My friends dad has a matching set of 95th anniversary bikes that he rides all the time. He has the RK, RG and the Ultra. We all ride bikes that are at least 10 years old. His brother has a 67 duo glide he rides regularly and a couple shovel head FXR’s. I don’t know many evo bikes they own between them. I like to see the old stuff ridden and not hidden.

They are definitely cool bikes.  I always really liked the 95th Anniv paint scheme too.  The Road Kings and Road Glides I thought were especially well laid out.

I can sympathize with the "had to have it" feeling.  I'd felt that way about the triple red SERG for a long time before I finally scored mine.  Had seen them new but only after all were sold.  Then CVO bikes were actually hard to get.

You've scored a great ride. Have fun with it.   :2vrolijk_21:

So glad to see the registry is still active. We are the keepers of the most iconic of the brand...the early SE's.  Proud to say at 19 yrs she is still running strong and receives compliments everywhere we go.

In a few weeks March 8th I will have had mine 20 years... 55,000 miles, I still get asked if its a new bike.. She sits most of the time, I ride her every couple months ... At this point I hate racking up miles.. So I tend to ride my other bikes.. I will never sell it... That will be up to my daughter after I pass on

Inherited this Triple Red from my father last year. It needs to be cleaned up but otherwise it has been well maintained and runs well, 13k miles.

Good morning Lou, I know exactly how you are feeling, I sold mine last summer and Diane and I bought a bigger boat that we have been spending all our time on.  I hope all is well with you and the family, stay safe, and have fun my friend.

Hi Marty,
Just to inform you that we no longer own our SERG. Terry and I have transitioned onto four wheeling and RVing for now. Miss the group meets, but realize we still have many friends for life.
