Title: SERIOUS 103 PROBLEMS
Post by: DCFIREMANN on July 09, 2006, 09:41:56 AM
I have not posted on this yet because I am waiting on the MOCO. When Punkin's motor was torn down to do the timken conversion and bore the cases for future upgrades it was found that my fly wheel assembly was out of true. .008 on one side and .004 on the other. As a result of this the pinion shaft is worn. Zippers will not do a reassembly on the motor till this is straightened out. The bike was still under the MOCO's warranty(not extended which I don't have). I am trying to get the factory to cover the flywheel assembly under warranty, which they should. The motor had a bad vibration in the past so I now know where it came from (I had a good idea).

So right now I am still without Punkin. There are a few ways to go on this. 1 the factory will warrant the assembly,2 order a Jim's SE 103 assembly or 3 repair my original set.

No matter which way it turns out that I go number 2 is my last choice. Number 1 is my first choice. No matter which way I go I will be sending the assembly to Flordia to be retrued and welded. That way it will never move again till I want it too.

I hope to have some anwsers this week.

Dawg,
Man that sucks to hear. :( I know you've been w/o your Pumpkin for a long time. Hope things work out and you can get all this resolved to your satisfaction and get in the wind.

I should know something tomorrow. The main problem is Zippers is not an approved Harley repair facility. That is where the main problem lies at this point.  The MOCO did open a warranty claim and had the dealer actually check the fly wheel assembly out and confirm what they were told was wrong. If I can get a set of fly wheels this week I should have the bike back by the week of the 23rd. I just want to get Punkin back ASAP.

Dawg,
Are you saying that the dealer who measured the flywheels is also saying they're out?  Hopefully moco won't try to blame Zipper's as causing the out of true crank.  Good luck!!  Keep us posted!

Good news from the dealer today. The Motor Company is going to warrant the flywheel assembly. The bad news is they are on back order!!!!

Dawg,

Can you offer ot pay the difference for the better 103 SE Flywheels?  Then send those off to Wes?   My guess would be you could get a set of the SE Flywheels from somewhere round the country.

OK guys and girls. The dealer called yesterday. Flywheels were in. After second round of X RAYS me being the HD fanantic that I am instead of going home and straight back to bed for much needed rest. I went straight to the dealer then straight over to Zippers. Zippers does read this site. They already knew about the accident. It was a fun trip to say the least(can you say percocet) Dan had Mark stop what he was doing to assemble THE DAWGS motor. So I got to see the bottom end go together THE ZIPPERS WAY. Attention to detail and everything is cleaned over and over. Clearences are checked twice. It was very interesting to say the least. Mark walked me through it and I am very pleased that it will be right when I get Punkin back next week.

I will keep you updated when it is finished. And yes V I AM RIDING HER HOME!!!!!

Good news at the end of a less than spectacular group of events.  Glad to read it Dawg.  Will anxiously the final report on just what exactly ends up being inside of Punkin and how it runs out.

Hmmm...posting at 2:11 AM?  I'd say you either fell and hit your head AGAIN or the pain killers just kicked after a failed attempt to sleep!!!   :-?

You go right ahead and try that one if you want BUT I'd really hate for you to drop the Pumpkin after waiting so long to get her back!!!!  What will the officer put on that accident report for cause of accident?  I think I have a helmet sticker that will apply!

Mikey (Dawg) sorry to hear about an accident hope your doing alright.   Better living through pharmeceuticals is a moto I very familiar with.   I hope you will be well soon and glad to hear punkin is almost back in your hands.

I am really interested in hearing what the final configuration is.

Thanks Harry. Doing better and off of the meds at least for right now. I really do not know what Danny has up his sleeve. All I know is they keep saying "YOU ARE GOING TO LOVE THIS THING" I know they talked about a 124 but I kinda bucked at that. I want to ride this bike all of the time. The one 124 fuelie I rode that they built was pretty darn fast. I think the H/P was 156 and the TQ was 148. All I know is it ran. I did see a 120 they built last week that put 206 at the crank on pump gas and carb. I guess we shall see next week sometime. Last time I talked to them I was pretty set on a good strong and reliable 103. That is really all I need up here in the mountains.
