Well I was on my way home when I noticed a strong vibration comming through my grips, at the next light it felt like the motor was gonna jump out of the frame, pulled over and looked under the front of the motor and saw ( what I think is the front motor mount bolt) hanging half way down. I also noticed that the motor looked like it droped in the front end, the floor boards almost hit the lowers ... rode home, dealer was closed for the night... Do you think it is ok to ride the bike back to the dealer in the am or should I have them pick it up....... This sucks [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

If the front just breaks as they so often do then riding it (gently) isn't a major thing. If the mount has acutally come apart though, with the bolt unfastened, I'd not ride it. You've got no horizontal stop against torque and nothing to keep it slopping side to side. Could actually do a fair bit of damage if it's run with that completely apart.

have you had the mount replaced with the new ones ? there was a thread about this. I think the ones that came on our bikes were for 88 inchers. HD has came out with a new part # for the mounts. I think thats what I read here

well I am gonna check to see how bad it is now that the bike is cooled down, is this a easy fix, can I wait for it or do you think I have to leave it, I dont want to screw up the motor, gonna check it now, back in 10mins thanks guys

I had never changed a mount before but it took me about 1.5 hours. A dealer should do it in less. I put in the VelvaRide mount. When the bike is on it's jiffy stand, lay down and look up from the LH side (at the crossmember) and see exactly what's wrong. Like 2Lane said, it might or might not be safe to ride.

well I guess the dealer has to pick up the bike, rubber gone and bolt sheared off, ( not good ) and the head bolts have black paint where the mount is, I guess from rocking back and forward, and I really babyed it the rest of the way home..

2,798 and I really don't ride hard

Had my front motor mount replaced at about 10k. Guess they used that new style? Anyway I have not noticed any particular vibration since replacement.
-
Had my mount break sometime before 4k.

The dealer found my front motor mount broken & replaced it while I had it in for the 5K maint & told me about it when I picked the bike up. While I had noticed some vibration before that I guess I was lucky it hadn't gotten too bad before the dealer discovered it but after they replaced it, it was noticeably smoother.

I noticed when I went two up with the wife I get a noticeable "jumping" of the engine when using the foot brake. Like it is shaking much more than normal. It really transfers the shake through the engine and frame. Her rear footboards really get it as well.
Guess we better look at the mounts. When I use the front brake, which I usually do, there is no shaking.
