Considering the SE individual parts vs. the Ness Big Sucker: (both with chrome backing plate)

WVULTRA,

Team Ness Model Number 18-505 at Eastern Performance $99.95:
http://www.easternperformance.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=3&a mp;products_id=899

The Chrome setup Model Number 18-507 is $10.00 more at eastern perf...which is what I have.  The Ness filter may not carry the K&N badge, but it is very close to the real thing....I don't know who makes it for them.

As you stated the Ness unit is a more simple/efficient design which is one of the main reasons I went with it over the SE.  That and the filter that you got in the SE kit form wasn't that great.  I thought about doing the roll yer own deal w/K&N, but one-stop shopping works too.  Overall, I'm pleased with the Ness BS.    :)

Roll your own but use the Zippers "Hunking Huge" air cleaner element!   [smiley=mango.gif]

The RK 3910 you mentioned is supposed to be a good one...the guy that tuned my PCIII swears by that unit.

The good thing from what I saw (had one in hand) at the tuner is that it fits under the "football" cover well.

So the HD stock stuff must choke the system more than I imagined...yikes!

If you check out the application section under the RK 3909 the 07 SE models are not included.  About a month ago I inquired if this was an oversight and was told that at this time they do not offer an assembly to fit that application.  Hopefully that will change in the near future.

Gregg beat me to it on the 3909 and 3910 kits. I called K&N today and they do not recommend using the 3910 kit on the CUSE. It may be OK but they have not tested it yet on that application.

Concerning the 3909/3910 not being listed for the CVO's yet.......is the "football" cover made differently on the CVO's vs. the standard Big Twins?

 [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

WV....yes, I believe it is, though I am not 100% certain about this.  In order to get the regular round K&N to fit decently, the thick gasket is required between the cover and the filter.  Not because of the seal, as the filter fits the baseplate just fine (the SE chrome baseplate), but the cover is made in such a way that there is a gap where the top of the filter meets the CVO football shaped cover on the Ultras.  The thick gasket helps fill those voids.

Although I did not actually fit the filter of the 3910 kit inside the cover, it appeared that it would work.  I wish now that I had looked into it a little deeper. :(

When I was doing my own SE on the 07, I was trying to come up with a slick way to fix the cover issue and wasn't being very successful, then a bud of mine who was over checking out what I was doing asked me "Why don't you just put a thick washer under the bolt to take up the space?"

It works great.

That's what I get for trying to over-engineer things.

Chief...that's what they provide with the Doherty PowerPacc...a thick washer between the cover and the A/C.  It'll all work, even without the gasket or washer, but it makes it all a little cleaner install.

And, to edit my earlier post...there is a difference in the covers on the 06/07 models from any of the other football type covers.  The other covers have an "indented" place for the round part of the filter to rest in...the covers on the 06/07 do not have this indention, so it causes a "gap" on the front and rear of the cover, which in no way effects the air filter itself, as the top of the K&N, Doherty, Zippers, Ness, etc is sealed to the filter, so air can only get in one way...around the edges.  I think K&N makes these filters for the other companies and they just call them there own.  Some are a bit thicker to provide even more air flow than the regular 0800 model.

That's what I get for trying to over-engineer things.
