New hack
« on: April 16, 2015, 12:40:58 PM »

Well the little woman saw the movie with the side hacks and dogs and decided that would be fun. Although archaic in design, the new unit now has Brembo disc brakes and FI. This model sports an extra wheel, gas can, shovel and available two wheel drive. Not really my cup of tea but she and our Aussie seem to enjoy it and together they do garnish a lot of attention. So we now own a Touring, ADV, Sport Touring,  and Dirt bikea along with a hack. I'd get a sport bike to help ballence the equation if I didn't think I'd kill myself.

Roger, that dog in the 2nd picture looks like he could use a drink!

I'm interested in how well the 2wd works.
I think there may be a Ural in my future!

No lane splitting is a deffinate downside

This Dog surely needed a drink when the decision was made

Haven't lifted it yet, she won't let me. She keeps two fifty pound weights in the sidecar while she is learning

There is a lever and linkage to the main drive rear hub that locks it into 2wd.

It also has reverse. We added a longer lever to what looks like an old suicide shifter on the right side.   It's no power demon at 42/43 with a four speed, but at only 750 lbs it gets the job done.
Making your own hack combo would certainly be more adventitious power wise but would generally lack the features of reverse and 2wd. This was turn key and eve has a kick starter if the Ele starter fails.

Don't let a little thing like that stop you.  You know we'd all miss you, don't you?  Please don't misspell my name in your will.

On a different note, I'll bet that Ural would be just the ticket on ice covered bridges in the middle of winter.  It's even camouflaged as snow.

Let's see, that's Knucklehead, correct?  Maybe with that Sahara desert rabbit camouflage paint I might be able to sneak into Canada now. If not I'll show them my two year old shellacked Trapperdog dinner roll.

There's a member of this forum (and Pashnit and Adv Rider, etc.) that rode one of these things from Seattle all down the west coast and then across the country to New York.....with his wife...Harvey Mushman.  He's got an incredible ride report.  :2vrolijk_21:

JC, she hasn't got me off the ground yet. But I keep hoping. I'll have to check out Harvey's rr. I'll bet Melanie has seen it on the ADV forum

It's right here. We had a blast! Still have it and it's one of the few that I'll be bringing on the California with me. The next six months will show if she'll love it or hate it.
