Harley Strike News
« on: February 13, 2007, 08:42:24 PM »

I don't have any, but there has to be a few of you among our CVO fraternity who do.  Any rumblings, rumors about how long this is going to last and how it will effect production?  If they have to cut production do you think it will be the June bikes canceled or the February ones?

Jay this most likely wont help you any but we called SPOCK at Harley today and we were told that there was a 50/50 chance that we would receive our March allocation ....at least they didnt hang up on us which I found to be encouraging

I usually look for updates myself. It is interesting to see both sides positions. Just as it is to hear the opinions of onlookers. I consider myself a reasonable person so I tend to look at these situations from both points of view. I'd like to see what they agree to in the end.

Did any one here what the out come of Harley and the Unions meeting was today, and if CVO orders will be coming through or not? I have one on order and was to be in March, I think that I might SOL.

Does anyone have any thought on this?

Harley-Davidson, union resume talks as strike continues
The Associated Press
YORK, Pa. -- Talks resumed Thursday between Harley-Davidson Inc. and the union representing workers at its largest factory, but they yielded no resolution of a nearly two-week-old strike.

Tom Boger, a union representative with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local 175, called Thursday's session "probably the most positive meeting we've had since January." Harley-Davidson spokesman Bob Klein would not characterize the discussions.

Nearly 2,800 workers have been on strike since Feb. 2.

Talks had been planned for Wednesday but were postponed due to the winter storm that clobbered the Northeast. The two sides were scheduled to meet again on Friday.

Two federally mediated sessions last week failed to produce a solution.

Union members overwhelmingly rejected the company's three-year contract proposal Jan. 31. It offered annual raises of 4 percent but would have reduced pay rates for new hires, required employees to begin paying part of their health insurance premiums and forced pension concessions.

Pittsburgh Business Times - 11:01 AM EST Thursday, February 15, 2007

HB Performance Systems Inc. announced Wednesday that it has laid off 83 employees at its Mequon, Wis., plant as a result of strike at Harley-Davidson Inc.'s factory in Pennsylvania.

HB manufacturers brake systems for the Harley-Davidson motorcycle models that are assembled at Harley's plant in York, Pa., where a 12-day strike has halted operations.

In all, HB employs about 210 hourly production workers at its plant at 5800 W. Donges Bay Road. The workers are represented by the United Steelworkers union, based in Pittsburgh.

The layoffs affect employees who work in HB's Motorcycle, Powersports and Specialty Products divisions.

"While unfortunate, I would like to stress that this action is temporary and meant to only last until the Harley-Davidson strike is over and demand is reinstated," said Rand McNally, president and chief executive officer of HB Performance Systems. "We are poised to reinstate our brake manufacturing operations and shipments for Harley-Davidson as soon as operations resume at the York facility."

Approximately 2,800 unionized employees who are members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) Local 175 went on strike Feb. 2 at the company's facility in York, Pa., the company's largest plant.

Dyna Low Riders would be, but not Electra Glides, Springers, or Road Kings.  They're York.

103Thunder,
You were right, the SE Dyna is made at the Kansas City Plant (and so was the SE V-Rod), the Springer, Road King and Ultra Classic are made in York.  My bust, I did some more research found out that the SE Dyna is assembled in Kansas.

York did increase from two models to three on it's CVO line this year.  That was actually a point of contention for the Tour Operations people at York in getting them to give permission for a prospective tour on that side of the plant.  But that three models are the SEUC, SERK and the SE Springer.  Dynas are coming out of KC where the other Dyna production is done.

RedDevil, I was just listing what was current production.  You were correct, too, about the V-Rods, but the last year for those was '06.

Sorta surprising that someone who makes a living selling these things and who is providing information about availability of CVO models during the strike to members of this site would not know where the different models are produced, though. :nixweiss:
