Where are the pictures?
« on: July 19, 2017, 07:03:30 AM »

For the past few days, I've been getting a note from photobucket where there should be pictures that I'm assuming were posted using that site.  I've attached a snippet from one of the many posts showing what I'm seeing.  Is this something from my end I need to correct or from the poster on the thread?  I don't have a photobucket account so is that the problem?  What's going on?

What was free from Photobucket now requires a paid subscription. Anyone know of another photo storage provider that allows third party hosting for free like Photobucket used to?

Correct Photobucket is seeking more money. They are barely worth the free service they provide! They have an outrageous amount of ads on their pages. They want you to pay to go ad free...

My suggestion is to work on the photo editor software for the site. Let the user choose a picture and have the software resize it.

Quite often I can't post pictures directly due to the size. It is more work than it's worth to open something just to resize and than carry on.

Bandwidth be expensive. URL photo links be cheaper.

Try TinyPic. http://tinypic.com/

I quit using Photobucket a long time ago.  Not because of Global Warming.

Flickr used to have a certain amount that was free or $20 a year unlimited.

flickr is free.  a lot of folks have gone to that.  there's also google photos, i'm not sure how to do a third party link from there though.  another one that functions pretty much like photobucket is imgbb.com  free account gives you 2 gig of storage.

photobucket just went absolutely batchit crazy.  what they used to offer free, they are now asking 39.99 per month!  I predict that soon, photobucket will have gone the way of myspace....

I was wondering the same thing as well. I started building a wiring harness with photos that were posted in a wiring diagram and now I can't finish it because I can't view them. Apparently the forum has to upgrade their account not the users. That's why it says third-party hosting. So I was curious will it be upgraded? So I can view the pictures and finish the harness. need help on this would be appreciated. Thx

the forum does not have an account, each user who has photos on photobucket must upgrade their account if they want to use the photos on 3rd party sites.

There's nothing wrong with charging reasonable fees for a service, but I find a lot wrong with a company like this one deciding to hold everyone's images hostage to force them to sign up and pay the new fees.  You see this same thing on any sites that allowed users to post photo's.  Anyone who wants to fix all their hundreds of posts that contained photos they stored on photobucket now have a choice of paying the ransom, or fixing all those posts, or just leaving everything as is and making readers guess what was going on.  Really classy, photobucket.  I hope this backfires big time and puts them out of business.

I agree with Jerry. A small feet is not unreasonable however the manner in which they went about it is totally wrong.
