Primary Chain Tension
« on: August 13, 2017, 09:08:26 AM »

I have a 2012 FLHXSE3 with 5K klms, as a precaution I checked the primary chain tension.
I pocked a screw driver through the inspection cover hole, chain has approx 3/16 movement up and down in total. Before I remove the primary cover to inspect further what is the recommended chain slack if 3/16 is too tight?

cold or hot?

I rechecked this morning Cold and got the width of a chain link slack pushing upwards with a bit of force. So approx 5/16 to 1/2 slack with some upward pressure on chain with bike Cold.
Bike was sitting for an hour after a ride when I checked yesterday and got 3/16 movement.
