2014 Ultra electrical issues
« on: August 17, 2017, 10:33:05 AM »

Has anybody come across this.  A friend has a 2014 Ultra Limited.  He went to ride the other day and has no lights, bike starts fine.  When he turns ignition on, lights come on (running lights) then go out, new batteries in the fob (security light on console stays solid red).

Any Ideas,

More information would be helpful, especially if there was any recent work done to the bike. If so, the problem would very likely be related to that work. I would check the fuses but they are probably fine if the lights do come on. It may be a glitch with the BCM. I don't know if this will help but it is simple. Have him turn the ignition on, pull the main fuse which is under the left side cover, turn the ignition back on and reinsert the fuse. That is essentially a hard restart of the bike's computer systems.

Thanks Greg,  no recent work, we'll give the BCM reset a try.

These days the first thing should be checking the diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's).  If the security light is staying on, there should be codes present.
