Garage door opener
« on: August 19, 2017, 06:28:12 PM »

I bought my bike used and don't have all the parts to make the garage door opener work but I do have this (pic) on the inside of the fairing...so does anyone know the PN of the wall unit and is that piece sold separatel?.  Also, I have the high-beam/spot light wiring harness...will this affect the operation of the garage door opener?

The part shown in your photo is the transmitter.  Now you need the receiver.  They are available separately from Harley, follow this link to the Harley catalog page.  You could also search for used ones, including asking the folks on this site about the extras they may have (people who own more than one bike that came equipped with the garage door opener kit).

https://www.harley-davidson.com/store/remote-control-garage-door-receiver

The "spots with high beams" modification shouldn't affect your GDO.

Btw, click on the "More Info" tab on that web page for the installation instructions.

Read it here (somewhere) that these will do the same as the MoCo branded one - Skylink 838R Rolling Code Receiver and they are a lot cheaper.

Certainly looks the same visually Gary.  You might have just found us the OE for the GDO parts.

When I read about it here I immediately went on Amazon and added it to my wish list just in case I ever needed to get one. Just shows (as we already know) how much more something costs when it gets the B&S logo. :( >:(

That's (at least almost) cheap enough to buy one just for curiosity's sake.  Just to find out if it actually works.

Exactly!!!! I've definitely pissed, wasted, spent more in the past on something that didn't work or I didn't want/need.. :D

Wish I'd never visited this thread yesterday cause flicking my hi/lo beams quit opening my garage door yesterday.  :confused5: Now I gotta blow my horn till the lil lady comes out and hits the indoor button for me, That ain't working out too good either.

Mine is the genuine HD combo installed by me in 2008, I got a red light on my receiver is all I can tell you at this point. My door working good, my lights seem fine. Guess I'll pull the fairing off and dig around in there. If system is kaput I'm butchering up one of my remotes to something.Stepping down the voltage to work with the remote is easy I hope.

I'm all ears
