I bought some 5/16 U nuts and bolts at lowes pretty cheap for the rearward bag mounts.

the new system hd uses on the 17s is very similar, except that the 'u-nut' is much more robust than the thin piece of metal in the other kits.  it's a little more expensive, but i like it fine.
