Higher compression for cam change\Stay 110
« on: August 29, 2017, 08:46:44 AM »

Anyone update piston with a higher compression but keep the 4.00 bore and 110 cylinder? See S&S offers a 10.6:1 piston but not for the twin cooled motor.
Need a twin cooled option myself but also wonder how well the fit will be. Should it be bored little over? Slightly larger .005? Or just standard?
Of course for different cam.

110 air & twin cooled piston should be the same application

You need to find out how out of round the cylinders are and how much has to be removed before you just buy a piston.   You might need a +10, but u won't know that till you measure

Suburban HD usually has the pistons in stock.

I thought the same thing about wet head and air cooled piston but the S&S says won't work for twin cooled. Maybe just their piston but maybe it's the way the head combustion chamber is shaped? The reason for the question though.

The twin cooled 103 has a different chamber shape. A flat top will work with it or I have modified bathtub domes to work.

The Motor Company also says their high compression (10.5:1) pistons don't work in wet head engines, but I ran them in mine with no issues, well none until the oil control rings gave up and it started using oil. (I wouldn't recommend SE performance pistons). But I figured they'd work once I looked up the oem piston part #s and notice the piston part numbers were the same for both wet and dry 110"s and no one could explain why they wouldn't work in one if the worked in the other.

Clarification
The cvo 110 wet head is the same chamber and compatability  with the hd/male piston is fine.

What unbalanced said about cylinders being straight and round.
Most of the them need to be bored and hone to start fresh or the rings never will wear or seal properly.
The Male pistons are a quality part. They need a very good bore properly sized and the right hone to live and then they will take a lot of abuse but not detonation.
