ACR Engagement
« on: September 11, 2017, 12:52:01 PM »

Just wondering. Do the ACR's engage with the on and off switch or the starter button?

16 and down turn on the acr after it cranks for a number of times 3 or 4 I think but the mother ship changed that in 17 to turn them on when you turn on the run switch that's why the new ones crank so fast

Mine is an 08 and sometimes when it is on the compression stroke when hitting the starter button, it will slow crank and then spin like it should. Normal?

One thing I have found is if I leave my switch on to let the Boom fire up long enough, the bike will barely turn over. I also then don't here the ACR's working. I have a feeling when the bike is turned on, the ACR's are only held open for 20-30 seconds, then closed.

Factory acr's are hooked to the ECM that enables the cylinders to vent partial compression when the engine is turned over. After market builds often will modify the wiring harness and hook the ACR's directly to the starter to enable greater compression release. That's why you often hear people with after market tuners accidentally turning off the acrs when they remap their ecm's with a device.

I'd like to see some documentation that the ACR's are now triggered as soon as the run switch is set to "run".  This is the first time I've seen anyone mention it, and to me it makes no sense to set it up that way.  I know Harley made a running change a year or two ago to reduce or eliminate the delay when you press the starter button, which does make sense.  But triggering them with the run switch, which is used for other things besides actually starting the bike, not so much.

Captain, do you happen to have a TTS or other flash tuner?  If so, see if you can change the delay so the ACR's are energized as soon as you hit the starter button.  Steve Cole of TTS would be a good person to ask about this.

No, I have a Direct Link tuned on a dyno. Know for sure that ACR's are turned on as they were off when I had it tuned and they corrected. Don't know if that tuner has capability of adjusting timing on ACR's.
