Plugging a tire?
« on: September 30, 2017, 04:02:10 PM »

Walked out late morning to put a seat in the seat only to find a flat tire.  Crap....

Have a good used replacement tire laying under the work bench that could have put on.  Just really didn't want to mess with it though.  Wanted to get riding now.  So plugged it real quick and thought "to hell with it."  Puncture was in the sidewall but it sealed up so well I just wasn't going to worry with it.

Screw it.

I know.  Some will bitch about safety and ignorance.  Probably even using the wrong kind of oil to lube the plug.  But I wanted to get the yard mowed and those stupid little tires are such a bitch to get reinflated when they've been off the wheel.  Even worse is that I intend to keep right on using it...

Don't know if I could live with having to keep the speed in single digits.   :D

"They all do that."  Just said that b/c you probably miss hearing it at the dealership.  LOL

Well, when that plug gets shot out of the sidewall and hits your companion/neighbor in the eye, don't say I didn't warn you.

For me it's just three acres.  Still feels too long to get it done some days.  I could get really pissed off doing 10.  Or really wasted.  Depends on the beverage with me on the mower...  ???

Well Twolane, I hope you used nitrogen to re-inflate and you know you have voided your warranty.

Ride year round here, leaves scream all 12 months.

You also need to make sure you use the more expensive "Harley air" which is available at Harley dealers everywhere....more expensive, however it will not void your warranty.

I don't blame you one bit Don. We know what a pain in the ass those low profile mower tires are to get mounted.  Does that wheel even fit on the tire changer?

Oh my gawd.  Don't even check the price on the Screamin' Eagle upgrade to the standard Harley air.

Don, My riding mower tires used to go flat.  Started using this stuff when the mower tubeless tires were new.

When a mower tire gets a leak, it seals it by some sort of sorcery.  Have used it on a couple of riding mower tire sets.  No flats.  Of course I voided all my warranties.  I priced Screamin' Eagle air.  Yee gads.  Found out there is SE pre- 2007 air and it will not work in bikes after 2007.  Something about the metric system I think.

I think with iski's advice of using the metric air it might be ok.  Might need a moderator to confirm.

Metric air is only good when installed late afternoon on Tuesday thru Thursday of the second week of the month when the ambient temps are between 77 degrees F and 83 1/2 degrees F. Also coastal air is better for sidewalls. The Lawn Boy told me about that.  :D

This is true.  No matter where on your body you might get them they are a bad idea.  If only everyone could see that clearly enough to understand.

Johnny Nash could.

Downside is you can't get into the secret chat room.  Other downside is if you are blinded by the ink would need to be a Braille chat room.

I think that the HD SE air is produced locally at the HD dealerships and smells suspiciously like yesterdays lunch burrito.  It is too dangerous to ship.
