Windshields for all bikes
« on: March 13, 2018, 05:54:39 PM »

I have an extra windshield for my 1014 Limited. I had a discussion today with a friend who has a 15 CVO Road Glide. He is on the fence and wants to upgrade as do I. What is everyone using and how do you like it. I have a LRS and that is what he is looking at.

I like freedom shields, they are thicker than most, less flexible and the edges are polished smooth.

im running a CLEARVIEW on my 16 RGU, works great and better for BSR than the LRS. the LRS is a good bang for the buck but cant beat the CV for rider and passenger comfort... i went with the dark tint but if i did again think i would go with a  lighter tint. my 2 cents  (fixed it)

I ran a 14" Freedom shield for about a year in the light tint.  Liked the shield but got a bit more wind on me and my BSR than we liked.  I'm fairly tall at 6'2" and was looking 2-3 inches above the 14".  Now running their 16" in light tint and don't like the looks as well but I can still see over it and my BSR likes the less wind better.  I think the non Ultra RG's sit low enough a shorter shield works better for them.

i have a medium tint mako from lrs for my 2013 road glide.  i have the shortest model, 11'' and it sits just about an inch taller than the 12'' wind splitter from hd.  due to the more upright positioning of the lrs.  it has a wider top section so i get a much nicer bubble of air behind it.  lot less wind noise, less air in the face, ends up equating to better sound from the speakers.

for the price, i don't think you can beat it.

For 15 and up Road Glide, Clearview, Clearview, Clearview!  I have tried almost a dozen different windshields over 15 years and nothing compares to the Clearview I have on my Road Glide. When I bought the 15 Road Glide I was very frustrated with the wind around my ears. The Clearview windshield flares out at the bottom just enough to break the wind away from the sides of your head. They come in different heights which is very much a personal preference but I tell you it’s definitely worth a look. And NO, I am not affiliated with the company in anyway.

I'm sure you remember from older threads and discussions about selecting the right windshield height DCFIREMANN that you need to know more about a rider then just overall height and bike they ride since it deals more about rider's torso height and riding position (slumped over or upright etc.) You can have two riders both 6'2" but one has his height from his legs and may have a 34" inseam and the other has a long torso and only a 30" inseam.....That would affect where the windshield height is in the way or is in the ideal spot.
This link may help in selecting the right height for your needs:
https://www.clearviewshields.com/choosing-correct-shield-height/

I have always had good luck and service with Clearview shields for my Electra Glide Ultra or my Road Glide.

Check out Freedom Shields https://freedomshields.net/ just give John a call after you do a little research on his site. His customer service and products are second to none in my opinion. He will guide you in the right direction for fitment and you are allowed to leave the plastic on and ride for as long as you need to make sure that it is the right fit for you and your bsr. If your initial order is not right he will GLADLY allow you to return it for the right size and tint or even a refund minus shipping of course.
John is awesome to deal with and gives members here a 15% discount. Call him guys you've got nothing to lose.

That is always a good selling point. More people on here like the freedom. I am trying to help 1dcfireman out with his new windshield. Him and I do a little riding together and he is chomping at the bit. I have told him several times ASK on the CVO Board. This place is a wealth of information. Thank you everyone and keep them coming.

Running a Freedom 14" in light tint. Will not go back to LRS like I had previously even if they are half the cost. They're less than half the quality of the Freedom shield. I'm just under 6' tall with a 34" inseam on a stock Hammock seat.

I ran Freedom shields with my Street Glides and loved them.  When I moved to the '15 RGU, knowing the Freedom reputation, I went with one.  Thing is, the SERGU faring design was allowing for a bit less wind on me but more side wind on Vickie.  The Freedom did not help alleviate that issue.  After reviewing some posts here and their website, I tried Clearview and was very happy.  The flip out at the top was similar to the Freedom but the small extra on the bottom sides of the Clearview (and a bit of a forward flip on that part, too) really helped with the passenger side wind.  I also installed the Kuryakyn adjustable side protectors...made the biggest difference.
I've posted pictures of the Clearview installed on Beauregard here on the site but can't find them on my laptop.  I rode in this morning and will take a couple to post.

I put a Xlarge, smoke tint Clearview with the re-curve on my CVO Limited. The top of the shield is inline with my mustache and the gentle re-curve does not distort my line of sight when I need to crouch down in a rain storm. Or at  least that is the plan. The bike is still sitting at the dealer with 1 mile on the odometer. (living in Northern Ohio sucks.)

For you RG folks I put 37,000 plus miles on my RGU and nothing works as well as a Madstaad. You may not like the way it looks, but if you are a function over form kind of person like me there is only one answer....

Here's a couple pictures of the lightly tinted.  I ordered this March of 2016 so the pictures reflect 2 years of service.  You can see this thing holds up well with little to no distortion.
Here's what I ordered:
Width:
2015 ROAD GLIDE GT SHAPE
Height:
MEDIUM
Color:
LIGHT GRAY
Vent Options:
NO VENTS

..... i just installed a 15" LRS Stingray on the '16 SERGU
...... i'm 6'1, look just over the top of the recurve & when in motion the wind flow is 3- 4" above my helmet & 1 handwidth away on each side.
....... the 'scalloped' sides of the Stingray seem to generate a little more wind noise than stock, but  pretty minor.

Look into F4 Customs for windshields.  They are harder to scratch especially compared to the HD stock shields.  They are American made too! www.f4customs.com

I just checked out their website. Nice looking windshields for sure BUT a lot of people are looking for curved windshields to redirect air flow from the rider or passenger.

I went to the site and that's what I was thinking, too, there Dawg.  It is a nice shield if you are looking for a better option than stock and made in the USA
