cvo 103 heads
« on: January 14, 2005, 07:01:55 AM »

there has been a lot of talk that the se103 heads are junk.these heads are far from junk. these heads in my view are not bad at all.  harley designed the ports correctly these heads have a excellent intake and exhaust port design. the only problem is the combustion chamber. it just too big. it can be welded up and you can use your stock piston, when you do this. if i owned a se103 bike, i would want the bike to be as orginal as it can be. you paid a lot for this bike. a  set of aftermarket heads or removung the se logo dimminshes the value of this bike. in a week harley is having ther winter dealer meeting. there are some exciting products on the way. a 120 "B" engine and some bigger factory throttle bodies. another update on cvo heads mods that we do, we are now matching the intake port, to efi httc intake manifold. thanks short block charlie

What can I do to retain same look (SE script) for my FLSTFSE and maximize HP?  Change heads to SE 103+, mod them?, high compression pistons, .010 cylinders, etc???

Just send your "stock" 103 heads to SBCharley and a wad of cash and you will have a nice grin put on your face when you get it all put together

What does one get when they send heads to shortblock Charlie? (along with cash)
Does that dictate a piston change or are the heads milled?
Is there a recommendation for cams. Is gear drive needed?

Inquiring minds want to know!!!!

hd2003 - se2005,

What you get is Conservatively 110 - 113 HP and 115 - 117 ft lbs of torque. That is what we are expecting with my 04 SE 103". This is using Stock Piston, Andrews T55G Gear Drive Cam, if someone wants the stock 103" Cams I will gladly sel them. Probably Rhinehart True Duals or still have V7H Pro Pipe, or if I get extravagant RBR 2:1 Black Hole exhaust. A Baker DDS 6 Speed and that is all I am doing.

Re. Heads, SBC refers to the reworking of the head as SBC "CV)" SE 103 Heads for Stroker Application heads, this is a process were they match the combustion chamber  with a Proprietary "Twin Swirl" process (volume dependent on cam and compression ratio desired) combustion chambers are welded up and machined to give you the often mentioned "squish", full porting, high velocity ports, flow vanes incorporated into the ports to enhance swirl.  In an earlier post ziggzag had an excellent descrption of the process.

Think this is the next step in the performance department head work and cams.  What size vavle does he use have a stock set of bare castings ordered to use so I keep the stock look.

Mr. Magoo,
I think that you will find that 1.94" is the exhaust valve size to be used.

Magoo:

You might want to talk to Brad about some head work. The Yuill's haven't been mentioned on the site regarding that, but he's quite good. I, personally prefer the Wood TW6HG to other cams, and with some slight milling of the stock SE103 heads and a .030 Cometic gasket you can achieve  dead on 10:1 compression.

My dyno sheet, after some work by the Yuill's is posted somewhere here, but for reference, my bike made 116HP and 121TQ after he did his thing, and that's with 10:1 NOT 10.5:1 COMPRESSION. No need for compression releases or other costly internals.

it'll be an intersting conversation Magoo. Brad told be he has been able to get some really high flow rates from these heads. Also, I'm not sure if you know that these guys helped develop Edelbrock's twin cam performer heads.
