RH True Duals install
« on: August 16, 2007, 07:12:46 PM »

I am curious of those running the Rinehart's if they did their own install or had it done?  I normally do most of my wrenching on the '04 Ultra (just put the RH on it not too long ago), but for some reason I am having doubts with the SE.

Any and all help/suggestions will be appreciated.

Take care

I did mine myself...no problem.  Loaded a canned map in my PCIII, then rode it to the tuner, some 50 miles away.

What's your area of concern?  True duals generally are about the easiest kind of exhaust to install.  No meeting/mating of front and rear pipes in one place that occasionally causes words of questionable vintage to be uttered at high velocity.

FWIW, I put a set of RH duals on ten days or so ago.  Removing the old duals and installing the new ones was about 90 minutes beginning to end.  It wasn't rushed.  It did include beer.  There was likely a potty break in there somewhere.  Having the bike up on the table lift no doubt helped a little.  But it really is a nice staightforward job.

Also did mine myself.  One of the more straight forward things you can do.

Thanks for the responses everyone.  I guess I am letting the SE intimidate me a little.  Like I said, I just put these same pipes on my '04 Ultra .  Didn't have to mess with any sensors though and the SE costs a little more...so guess I let it get to me.

Going to do a little more checking around, but right now I am leaning towards the 'roll your own' AC...should be pretty easy to find a MAP :)  I already have the SERT for the bike, just havn't plugged it in yet.

Thanks again!

You are a better man then I.  No way could I get it all done in 90 minutes.  I did get it done, but will skip on how long it took me.

Trying to find my tools takes most of the time I have found out though...will have to work on getting them straightened out.  Working in the sun doesn't help and I decided to just leave it on the ground instead of raising it up.  I have a table lift, but no room until we build our new garage.

Anyway, love the bike now...it actually sounds like a Harley.

One question...when you look down into the stock mufflers is that a cat converter that you can see?  Looks like a mesh screen?

Take care and thanks.

Not on an 04.

Congrats on getting them on.  Glad you're pleased with the outcome  :2vrolijk_21: .

The RH's I just put on were on the '07 SE Ultra.  That is why I was a little nervous working on it.  The mufflers off of it have a metal mesh/screen looking thing...

Thanks and take care

Sorry, remembered the mention of the 04 in the first post.  If memory serves correctly the stock 07 bikes didn't have catalyst mufflers.  The SE Glides did.

Mine went right on my '06 . I used the "07 pipes . Forget the number, bought them form John @ Eastern Performance for 699 I believe. The reason I went to the '07 pipe is for the bungs to tune with...Greg

I installed them on a 2006  Road King a few weeks ago. I have installed at least 10 sets of pipes from different manufacturers. This was however the first set of Rinehart True Duals. I was not impressed. The small heat shield for the rear cylinder did not fit well and then would not mate properly with the joining heat shield. The biggest issue however is clearance of the rear head pipe between the primary cover and the frame. There is probably only 1/8" clearance at both points. Just remember that the engine moves so it is really not 1/8" each side under operation. You have to do what you would probably not first think to do which is to have less gap next to the chrome over the primary since it floats and the frame does not.

For costing 20-50% more then other pipes I was not impressed. Many people say they are better but why? I have not seen any side by side dyno charts that prove it, it's just a preference you pay for. Sorry for the rant but just watch the rear head pipe spacing and you should be okay.

I am likely to install the RH TD's myself as well, I don't don't trust the dealership as far as damage to the bike.  At least if I f*** it up, then its on me...  I will also do the Roll your own SE AC and buy the SERT and rent a trailer for the bike to transport it to the nearest DYNO which is about 80 miles away.

Seems fine, Ron, though I'm having bizarre electrical probs, (separate thread on that) which I'm suspecting are due to the security module. Only ridden it once since we last spoke, yesterday to the dealer and back to get the 1000 mile service done, so no chance to test it thoroughly yet.  One thing I can say is it sure uses a lot of gas though....
