XM on 08 SE Ultra
« on: September 09, 2007, 10:33:04 AM »

Does anyone know if the 2008 FLHTCUSE3 comes standard with XM?  I see the Nav system is listed but there doesn't seem to be a comprehensive list of all the added features like the MoCo has provided in the past. Anyone seen a list like that yet?

Thanks, I thought so but it is not listed anywhere. Any sign of a full listing of add-ons?

The best information we found when the '08s were released was in the Press Release section on the HD web site. Look for items on July 9.

I got a CVO brochure from my dealer that lists all the stuff they come with.

On both the 06 and 07 web sites it gave a detailed spec list but I was unable to find it on the 08 web site.  I know the CUSE3 has XM but wouldn't MoCo want to draw more hits on a $35k bike?  I just about memorized the 07 specs from the web site and knew them WAY better than the dealer when we were discussing my purchase in Jan 07.

I like XM on the bike but there are over 200 stations.  It's tough to surf going up the dial when holding the throttle.  It's an awkward thumb positon that, early on, had me bumping the button "in" instead of "up" which changes the stereo input to weatherband.  And another thing.  I thought XM was "Commercial Free"!!!

There is a setting in the XM radio that will allow you to store favorites.  I have 5 favorites selected - much easier to locate since they appear on the screen & I scattered them to make channel surfing a little easier on XM.

Also, the new XM antenna position I am using, on the dash in between the dash bags behind the windshield, works great.  Thanks due to Chief!

But with the new MP3 player working so well, have a strong feeling the XM days are numbered on the Jester.......

If you just push and hold the button up it will start to scan through the stations.  There'll be a "scan" image that appears in the upper right of the screen.  I tried it for the 3 mos and got REALLY tired of listening the all the damn commercials :furious2:.  What a crock!!  There's no way I'm going to pay for that crap.

I have listened to XM for 15 months now...I do not understand the talk about "commercials".  I have not heard a single commercial for Toyotas, Viagra, or any other commercially available product.  Promoting one's own station with a 10 second blurb about what your are listening to/about to listen to, in my book is NOT a commercial, but self identification.  Commercials are air time paid for by outside entitys to promote their product.  Promoting XM radio, while listening to XM radio is not a commercial.  If you are listening to a station that is NOT a feed through XM (something like NASCAR, sports, etc) XM is at the mercy of the feed.  I listen to music, and have NEVER had a single moment of concern about "commercials" on the stations I listen to.

If one expects to simply have one song continuously leading into another one, make yourself MP3's and turn the XM off.  I can tolerate 5-10 seconds of them telling me I'm listening to XM 46, blah, blah. :nixweiss:

I'm with you Terry.  XM is the only way to go for me.  Too lazy to deal with MP3s and like to listen to different types of music.  Plus you can get financial news to see how badly your moco stock has tanked. :coolblue:

Terry,
I wouldn't mind if every so often, they'd plug another station.  It seemed like when I had the TMF (3 mos free!), every song was ended with "listen to this channel!"  If I wanted to listen to that channel I'd damn sure be over there and not on the one I was listening to.  To me "no commercials means NO COMMERCIALS.  And on top of their in house commercials, they then had commercials for loans and crap that I could care less about.  Since they stay in business, I guess they've found a following.  Works for me.

John...I've just never heard a commercial type commercial on the stations I listen to most frequently...like the loans, etc you refer to.  Perhaps it is because I only listen to stations that are not sports, racing, etc., and not fed from normally commercial sources.  I only have 3 or 4 favorites, so my experience is perhaps limited because of the nature of my listening preferences.  46 is what I listen to most, and most of their "commercials" are telling me about a special programming they are going to have on such and such a night, etc., and are 10-20 second 'blurbs'.  I find that informative and not annoying, but that's just me.  I also have an MP3 disc in the slot with over 100 of my all time favorite tunes, and another 80 or so in the GPS, that I really never get tired of hearing.  The only complaint I ever had with the XM was reception, and since I moved the antenna to the dash, no more issues there.

Whatever blows people's skirt up... :huepfenlol2:

All of your comments are spot on...just a few comments. On the HK Soundsystem it will let you store three pages of presets per AM, FM, and XM (I think it totals 21).  On the topic of commercials, I know one of the VP's at XM and he has admitted to me that more channels will be having some kinds of commercials but not the "standard" music channels. There are a few like KISS FM, which is an actual radio station in LA, thus you hear LA commercials. And say you are listening to Fox News (Ch 121) to hear the MoCo stock tank, you will hear customized XM ads instead of the ones you would hear if you were watching the feed on TV.
That being said, I love my XM on my 06 FLHTCUSE. Is there a good illustration of the antenna move "between the pouches" ?

Let me know,

Ride Safe,
