Courtesey Head's Up IRT SERT "L" Software.....
« on: September 27, 2007, 11:17:09 PM »

This is an EXCERPT from a recently released Tech Tip.... This is strictly for informational purposes....

This concerns the recently released version of EFI Race Tuner (part #32107-01H) which includes the software disc, version 476(part # 32117-01L).
It has just been determined that it is not compatible with ECM part # 32852-08A; this will impact its use on any 2008 VRSC, Dyna and Softail Models that use this ECM. At this time the -08A ECM should be limited to use on CVO models, but it is suggested you verify the ECM part # prior to installing EFI Tuner. Currently the software is compatible with 32852-08 and 2008 XL and Touring ECM’s. Additionally the software has been tested to work on
models with ECM part # 32534-05C, which is the service replacement ECM for 2001-2008 models.
Tech Service does have 2 EFI Tuner Calibrations that will work with this -08A ECM. If you have a vehicle with the -08A ECM and you are installing an EFI Tuner, you will need to open the attachments to this Tech Tip and Save the 2 files on your computer.
It has also been determined that the new software, version 476 has issues communicating with ECM part # 32534-05; it may quit installing at 20%. The solution is to reinstall software version 462 for this ECM. This issue is only known to effect the -05 ECM, the -05A/B/C are not affected. Again, verifying ECM part # prior to installing EFI Tuner is the best practice.
The issue does not lie within the ECM, they are not faulty, and we ask that you do not replace them to correct this issue. Any ECM’s returned to warranty that are found to be functioning correctly will be rejected.

Great info.  That must be what hoist was talking about when he mentioned an "L" version of the race tuner.  It's the disc thats marked L not the SERT part #.

Hey- Did Harley just hire a techical writer from Microsoft or Hewlett Packard?  Heheh.

shovelhead, will you need to have a Breakout Box part # HD-48637 to install any aditional software updates or for installing an EFI tuner to an 08 ECM.

Seems like Harley is trying to kill the aftermarket business.

Important Notice: The new connector can be installed backward. If the large brass pin is not properly aligned, the connector could be damaged and require a new wiring harness.
Which harness is damaged? If it is the bikes harness, and the tech fuc_ s up, will they put the blame on someone who has added an aftermarket tuner?   Be Careful!!

hogasm, please tell more about the breakout box. is it for interface? security bypass?

so far, sounds like the holy grail will be the first aftermarket tunable ECM fo 08.

There are actually 2 breakout boxes so far. One for the ABS brakes and the other that allows the tech at the dealer to attach the DT II to your 08 scoot.

As soon as your 08 is connected to the DT II big brother knows if your scoot has been modified or not.

Going to learn more about both boxes today.   Keep you informed.

It least it's better than some idiot that has heard it from the local speed shop and then adds their spin on it and then post it as their info. When you get a "excerpt from a recently released tech tip" from a qualified H/D Tech it is certainly appreciated.

Thanks S/Bob your contribution is very helpful!

HD-48637 breakout box is just a glorified name for an adapter harness to hook up the DT II to an 08 scoot, since the harness has been changed.

We tried today to use this harness and connect it to a power commander. Remember that we knew that the wireless throttle would not work.

The ECM went into security mode and until we unpluged everything and hooked the scoot back up to the DT II to get it out of security mode.

Aftermarket guys are going to love having to redesign parts for these 08's.

The Breakout box plugs into a wiring harness and allows non intrusive probing of the harness by a Multimeter. The Car Guys have used them for decades; H-D Techs have used them for nearly 15 years.

There is probably a photo of one in the Tools section of the Service or Electrical Diagnostic Manual.

What are you talking about?????

This has NOTHING to do with the Pin-Outs of the ECM's....

It has to do with the SERT software compatabilities with the -08 ECM's...

Please RE-READ the original posting.....

I have attatched the 2 maps that must be installed in the SERT "L" map library.....

ShovelHead Bob;
Is there a part number stamped on the ECM's to confirm? In the past part numbers were not always on them.

PS; Thanks for the info :2vrolijk_21:

Part Numbers are stored internally, and there is a sequence code on the ECM Housing....

The PN is "normally" on the back side of the ECM, not the ribbed or exposed sides....

Haven't had the seperate an 08 Touring ECM from it's cable yet...

The "H" version worked on the 08.  Freedom just finished tuning my 08 with a SERT and got 108 & 114, will post the dyno sheet when I get back.
