They are are good bike.
Especially since Arlen Ness did his magic on them.
A great alternative to the Jap Hardly Davidson.
Would I like to have one? YES!
Would I spend any of MY money to buy one?  NO!

i saw a victory bike at the swapmeet,  the aircleaner had  the words "Victory made by polaris" on it..i wasn't impressed by the looks of the bike.it had alot of cast parts on it with a satin silver finish..(forward foot controls ,rims, misc brakets).
I think polaris should stick with the watercraft ,atvs & snowmobiles...

KNG

I had a 2000 Hayabusa with a few motor mods.
On the dyno it showed 177 RWH.
I also had 9k in it.
I felt it was a true 200mph machine.
Took it to 175 many times, just not big enough B**ls to take it to 200.
Besides, It hurt this old guy to ride it more than a 100 miles.
Sold it and bought that highpowered 80 H/P Lowrider.
To old to tempt the hand of fate at 175.
Or maybe a case of TWB's

And yes that's a good looking bike for a Hardly Davidson you had!

Hd2003,  175MPH was always my wussie-out limit too.
Once things start to get blurry, you know it's time to back off it  [smiley=laugh.gif]

125MPH with a CD player and a backrest sure beats 175 without 'em.  [smiley=beerchug.gif]

I don't think that Polaris is counting on converting many existing HD riders to Victorys.  Instead, I think they are counting on tapping the upcoming generation of riders that are right now riding crotch rockets.  That generation has a different idea of what a bike is supposed to be.  They aren't sold on the mystique of HD.  I'm betting that HD themselves will look very different in another 10-20 years to appeal to this same generation.  That's why they're developing the VRod now, to be the cruiser for the folks that didn't come up saving their pennies to "upgrade" to HD.

Personally, Victory's don't quite do anything for me, but they're getting closer.  I won't ever own one, but like I said, they're not planning on selling me, anyway.  I can see how they would hold a lot of appeal for those who haven't "come up Harley", but are ready to slow down, sit up, and cruise while making sweet V-Twin sounds.  And since Arlen Ness and S&S are both making a line of accessories and performance engine parts, the aftermarket is growing as well.

A new generation of riders and new EPA regulations should add up to a pretty different motorcycle scene on down the road.

I guess it's good that those things weren't around back in the 1970's or I might not be here, today. [smiley=nervous.gif]  I can't believe how fast some production bikes are nowadays.

One hundred and seventy five.  Holy cow.  And I thought I was hauling a$$ on my friends 1974 Kawasaki Z1 900 at 110. [smiley=laugh.gif]

That bike though, wasn't even working hard--just purring along quietly--plenty of throttle and RPM's left.  (Wonder what it's top end would have been?)  My Triumph would have kept up, but it would have been making a lot more noise in protest--and I would have had some repairs to do when I got home.

OK RedFXR2

How bout this one.
My second bike was a 71 500 Kawasaki, three cylinder 2 stroke.
Since that wasn't fast enough I did the following;
Bored to 587cc's
K&N velocity stacks
Wirges expansion chambers

What a wicked machine!
Till it seized!

And for the record
a 74 900 Kaw will bring today 3 times the retail price it cost when new!
that was a fast bike!

Yep, I well remember those things.  There was a guy around my home back then who had a 750-3 with Bassani expansion chambers and some kind of intake work because it, like yours, had velocity stacks on the carbs.  That bike made a strange sound, scary, really, (sort of like a worked on Porsche, that banshee-like whoosh/whine/roar sound) and would lift the front tire just by rolling on the throttle moderately.

I watched al ot of motorcycle road racing back then, too and Yvon DuHamel rode those Kawasaki 2-strokes to many, many wins.  Nothing could touch them for power to weight ratio.
