Excess oil leakage out vent tube after long runs
« on: May 05, 2005, 02:25:47 PM »

I just got my bike 04 SEEG,  back from the dealer (repaired after my accident, frame replacement) and have noticed after a day long riding in 65 deg weather, oil leakage out the oil vent tube (never had this happen before the accident).  Just enought to run across a newpaper.  When hot, the oil level it right at the top line of the dipstick, when cold oil level is in the middle of the dipstick.  THe oil cooler feels warm and oil temp is about 208 deg.  I ran the bike last fall down to Key West and never had any oil leakage. I might just be paranoid.

Leaning, the bike on the jiffy stand.  I have over filled the bike a little before, and never any leakage.

Spyder,
You're right.  I should have been more precise.  Too much in the bag, man!  Keep me straight, there, Doc!  I need all the help I can get!  Later--HUBBARD

The Road King just before the SEEG would do just as your're describing whenever it showed full on the dipsitck while hot.  It's happy spot was a bit lower.  Different engines and environments will make this vary a bit.  Before getting too worried or doing anything that costs money to fix it try running it about a 1/4 quart lower down the dipstick.

turned out to be transmisson oil leaking out the old sensor hole (I upgraded to the SE 6 spd gear set and the sensor gets relocated to the new SE door) and running back and under the bike.  Thanks all for your help!!!
