Does anyone use Mobil 1 vtwin in all 3 holes?? If so has it worked pretty well?

Three holes, three different requirements.  Redline in Trans. Regular Primary lube (HD is fine) in Primary, and what ever synthetic in the motor.  The call it MOTOR oil for a reason.  Spook.

Harley says you can use their Syn3 synthetic oil in all three holes.  If that is so then you could use Mobil 1 or Ammsoil in all three holes as well.

In fact, Amsoil & Mobil now make the same claim as H-D, their products can be used in all three (emphasis on can).  Just because it can be used doesn't make it the best product to use, however.  I guarantee that if you use Syn3 in the trans and then change to Redline or BelRay, you will notice an immediate improvement in shift effort and noise, as well as less metal on your magnetic drain plug.  Been there, done that.

I have used Mobile 1 Gear Lube in my transmissions for a while and indeed can tell an improvement over Syn3. I have also tried Amsoil in the primary and changed back to regular old HD Primary Oil.  The purpose of the primary oil is to lube the chain and cool the clutch. The regular stuff does that just fine. Also, it is the belief of some that the synthetic lubes are too "slick" for the clutch needs. In addition, I have found Amsoil to be great in the motor. Makes things a little less noisy. JMHO.

Pay heed to GRC's advice  We've got a lot of anecdotal evidence and a few oil analyses that have all shown gear oil to be a better fluid in the gear box (your transmission) than a lower viscosity engine oil.  Just because a fluid is rated as "good enough" doesn't mean it's good or ideal.

Gear oil in your tranny will make it run quieter and shift more smoothly.  Have seen it in my own experience and the difference is pronounced.  I happen to use the Redline Shockproof product but any good tranny oil would accomplish the same thing for you.  Like Harry (I think it was Harry?) mentioned I also use the regular old standard primary oil in the primary.  Amsoil goes in the engine.

Just to clarify, you said it earlier in your post, but I think you meant gear lube here, too, as opposed to ATF, for example.

  I like the Mobil 1 VTwin 20-50 in the engine, Mobil one MX4T 10-40 in the primary and Mobil one 75-90 trans oil in the transmission. [smiley=beerchug.gif]

I've used Mobil 1 in all three holes for the past 5 years. My 99 Ultra had 39,000 on the clock when sold, no problems at all, oil changed every 5000. I've had to switch to HD Syn3 because on one carries M1 here in Greensboro anymore for some reason. No clutch problems at all and the tranny shifts fine. I have heard folks say thay can tell a difference when they go to syn. in the tranny but I can't, I guess I'm old and my sences are dull.
IMHO this is one of those personnel choice deals and there will NEVER be an agreement on which is best.

The only place here in N.W. Indiana that carried Mobil 1 V-Twin was Auto Zone, and they have stopped carrying it recently.  I went to three different Auto Zones and bought up what they had left, but that will only get me through one more oil change.  The Mobil web site claims that motorcycle dealers carry it, but none of them around this area seem to do so (I can't imagine a Harley dealer carrying it in competition with H-D oil).  Anyone have a good on-line source?

You can buy Ammsoil online and have it shipped to your house.  Just use google and search for Ammsoil.

After two emails to Mobil gave me a local retailer that sells it by the case.  You might try them again for a source, it worked for me.
