Why don't we all just pitch in 5 bucks a piece and pay his bike off?!

I'm in.

In case that's not agreeable with the other 5,595 member here, you should be able to get the payoff amount from the ex-GF's bank, then refinance at the bank of your choice.  Your bank sends the payoff amount to the ex's bank, they send the title to your institution and you have the new note in your name.

A better call would be for the 5595 people to throw in $7.50 to buy Neal a new 09 SERG.
Seems like a better idea to me!

I'm just a thinkin' here, but I bet if we all pitched in $7.50 a piece, bought Neal a new '09 SERG, with the custom 103" motor, (special stuff for the da man, ya know), I'm still a thinkin', but I bet he'd let us ALL be mod's for a day, and then happily spend the next month fixin' the messes we made tryin' to be helpful!  :2vrolijk_21:   What about it martian man?! tried that, I had some credit problems, that steamed from back child support which occurred while I was incarcerated back in the late 90's, even though I have cleaned up my life, and am ahead on paying the arrears, nobody wants to touch the financing because of this,

I guess the only option is a $20k cash advance on a 19% APR credit card.

How much do you owe?  Can you roll it into a home equity?

I know a local guy who bought a used lowrider. His credit is in shambles and the local banks would do nothing for him. He applied to HD for credit and they approved him. $11,500 used bike. Monthly payments of $350 for 7 years. That is $29,750. I amortized it out, and I'd guess 22-25% interest. Evidently he added the sales tax, license fees and first 3 months insurance onto the loan.

How do you help someone like this? I'd walk first.

I just got turned down for a target charge card---AK

Andy

It's a general merchandise charge card.
It's not a shooting "Target" card.
Standing in line to apply for a "Target" card with an AK-47 (AK like in AK get the correlation) usually gets you denied.

Randy, I heard about this website while on my bike this last weekend listening to sirius satellite. Out in the middle of no where I got into the talk channels and one guy giving financial advice was talking about ways to get money when you can't get a conventional loan. Anyway, go to the website www.prosper.com. I have not checked it out yet but the guy on sirius was really big on it being very legit.
When I picked my bike up I had to wait for the biz mgr at the dealership to finalize a sale with the guy ahead of me. That guy had bad credit and I overheard him tell the guy that they got the financing from Freedom Financial which was started by some folks previously at Harley financing...Hope this helps good luck... :2vrolijk_21:

I know a local guy who bought a used lowrider. His credit is in shambles and the local banks would do nothing for him. He applied to HD for credit and they approved him. $11,500 used bike. Monthly payments of $350 for 7 years. That is $29,750. I amortized it out, and I'd guess 22-25% interest. Evidently he added the sales tax, license fees and first 3 months insurance onto the loan.

How do you help someone like this? I'd walk first.

i hear you - but i think the key would be to refinance it as soon as you could so you wouldn't be paying the mid 20's interest for very long, or pay down the principal as fast as you can.

We had this conversation the other day. This is the problem with working middle class America. It also goes back to what Terry Crain was try to explain to everyone on the site: that most people don't understand basic financing and will get screwed when it comes time to sit down with the F&I guy and sign the papers. Most people only care about how much that monthly payment is going to be and how soon they can get their new toy, whether it is a new boat, car, or motorcycle.  They don't look at what it is going to cost them to borrow that money to make the purchase. I know a girl here in town (friend of a friend) who needed a new mode of transportation. She told the salesman that she could only afford $250 per month. Well after the salesman found her a mediocre used car the F&I guy (greaseball from up North) did his job adding everything he could to the car. By the time she was done signing the paperwork she owed $14000 on a car with a Blue Book value of about $6000. *How a legitimate bank can make an unsecured loan like this knowing the high percentage of failure baffles me.* To make matters worse, he then financed the loan over a period of the max 60 months at 12% which brought the car to the "magic" number of $250 per month. Talk about being "upsidedown" in an automobile. The only advice I could give was to keep the car in good condition for the full term of the loan and not miss any payments. Then shop around for a better interest rate at another bank if they would give them credit. TwinCam, what I would do is contact Wells Fargo. They have a auto department that handles "at-risk" borrowers. You could have them assume the loan from the ex's bank for a little more than what the value of the bike is worth. Then give those additional funds to the ex as "compensation" for her hard "troubles". Just remember, as my mother always tells me, in the end, it's all about the money.

I agree completely.
I still find it terrible and or very damn sad to have to "Finance the negative equity!".
For a normal course of business the recomendation to make payments for something you don't even own is one I could never make!
At least not one I would be proud of!
Suck it up, pay your bills and one day it will be paid for!

Yeah.  :2vrolijk_21:

And after that thing is paid for, instead of running out and buying the next thing you think you need at the monthly payment you think you can afford, save as much as you can (or the entire amount if possible) & write a check instead of only signing a loan payoff agreement.

Have never bought something - ever - on that "monthly payment" amount scam.

Interest rate + total payments = real cost.

My only response to your question is this. Many many years ago, I found myself in a somewhat similar situation. My parents co-signed a loan for my wife and I to buy new cars since we were spending more than the cost of the payments on the vehicles we had and we needed dependable transportation to get to work every day. We got a better rate because of their co-sign. Worked 2nd jobs to make double payments so we'd pay the loans off quickly and get my parents names off the loan documents. Those loans for those two solid used cars were a turning point in our financial life. I wish you the best of luck in this matter

Yes fired00d I am an Ex-NYer and proud of it. I am also very happy that I was smart wise fortunate enough to now live in SC. Don't know that will last forever but I'm happy here now and that's all that matters. However it's guys like the greaseball that give all NYer's, and used car salesmen for that matter, a bad name.

I just got turned down for a target charge card---AK

No chit AK, join the club.  Their formula must be somethin'.  I got TD'd back in the 90's.

Too funny I figured since my credit lines at the time were ove $5m.

I didn't buy the POS I had on the counter either.  If they had never offered the 10% discount for getting a card I would have made the purchase and been down the road.  Instead I bought it elsewhere.

Randy, any credit unions down your way, they are often a better source in these situations than a bank if you can qualify as a member.

We do a lot of secondary finance through them in Washington.

I've heard tell that people with perfect credit scores and no card balances get turned down due to their actually costing the store money in carrying the charge for 30 days with no interest if paid when the bill comes in. This is why American Express charges the stores that accept their card 3% and why a lot of stores don't accept AMEX. Target is figuring you guys will buy from them whether they give you a CC or not, so why carry you for 30 days.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

      PS
Roger. I'll bet you accept Master Card and Visa for deposits on vehicles but not AMEX - - - correct ?

BB, I think you are correct in that scenario on Target.

We limit cards to $3,000.00 on purchases for cars, but we take all of them including AMEX.

The purpose for the limit in today's dollars is a $30,000.00 purchse would have ~$540.00 in fee and we often haven't made that on the stupid sale.

I do this and am considered a deadbeat by the cc company...since they refund me someof this fee that I have already paid and they don't get any interest from me....I should see about $1500 from AMEX in early July...just don't tell Anne!

I do the same but as mentioned previously, a lot of places don't accept AMEX. Since I 86'd San Diego H-D, I've been buying stuff from Sweetwater H-D and they won't accept my AMEX. They are costing me $$$ on my rebate

My dealer or "Stealer" asked for my Master Card when I bought the bike to hold it, nonrefundable, as I found it over the net, and paid MRSP plus,

So I went to pick it up, I handed them my card and told him to put the balance on the card, after checking with everyone, and somewhat arguing about it ,they took it for the full amt.

This month I got my nice rebate back to help pay for the bike.

Randy
My wife owns her own business developing & selling educational print products & CD's, she has been doing good with it for the last two years, so we decided that it was time for her to go bigger, so we looked into a business loan or an investor for $50,000.00 and we offered 12% a year for 3-5 years depending on how long the investor wanted and we could not get anyone to want to be involved!! That is $6,000.00 a year, so that would be $18,000.00-$30,000.00 in interest depending on the term!!

Now that is a pretty good investment, but we could not get anyone to be interested!! :confused5:  :confused5:

Because of the economy now, noone seems to want to do anything now, I guess!! :nixweiss:

I've been offered everything but a Black. Don't see the point in it. My plain Jane green one is fine.

:nixweiss:

Regular banks have the FEDS on their collective asses all the time now.  Many of them are in jeopardy of being out of the equity/asset requirement set on them.

Also, loan officers have to justify every loan made to the duperior and chit flows uphill nowadays at the bank.  No mgr is taking any risk of a bad decision regardless of profit potential.  We are back to you can only borrow if you already have the money and then you wouldn't be standing there looking for a loan anyway.

I got it when I went to New Zealand thinking I could do better on a plane ticket as they promote buy one get another for free/half price whatever.

Problem is they are all sold out when you want to go.  When this year is up so am I.

We somewhat secured the loan with the company assets even, but like you said, they only want to lend money to those who already have money!! :confused5:  :confused5:

I got turned down for a credit card once. The same day, my 8 year old son got a letter from the same CC company that he was pre-approved.

My son bought a used car last year. He didn't want to pay full coverage insurance, and the only way the bank would approve it, was if I co-signed. I ended up firing him, and had to make 6 car payments until he went back to work. (I was afraid he'd loose his house and move back in with me, so, I re-hired him). Bank didn't have a lien on the car, nor did I. I'll never co-sign again for anyone. I'd be better off loaning the money. At least I'd make the interest. (If he makes the payments).

They had one other thing that I used to pay a lot of attention to when I travelled more.  It was an all expenses paid air evac pretty much from anywhere back home in the event of injury or illness.  Similar insurance if one were footing the bill himself cost what the card fees were.  Not travelling as much as I used to so cheaped out and dropped the expensive card two or three years ago.
