Anyone lower a 2009 SEUC?
« on: October 09, 2008, 10:48:23 PM »

Hey all,

I'm 6 ft and I still feel like my FLHTCUSE4 sits a little too high for my comfort, especially in low speed or at stoplights.  When stopped, I find that I'm on the balls of my feet!  Never had this problem with any of the other baggers I've owned so I figure its got to be the new frame.

I was considering installing the HD front fork lowering kit and a pair of HD Profile Low Touring shocks.  Has anybody done this on a 2009? Will it affect the handling?   Rear shocks are obviously an easy swap - is the front fork kit something I could do at home or are there a bunch of $pecialty tool$ needed??

Thanks!

Probably would do better getting some air shocks in the rear so that would allow you to lower bike when needed and keep normal ride height at all other times. :nixweiss:

I'm surprised at this. at 6ft I sit flat footed bent kneed on my SERG. Now I know EG's sit higher but that much? maybe a seat change may help. I got a custom skinned Corbin coming in a couple weeks.

Its not just the 09s, had the same problem with my 08.  The seat height was probably 3 or 4 inches lower on my 02 Ultra.  I think some of the problem on my 08 is the seat.... I think the OEM seat is about two inches thicker that the seat on my 02 (gonna change the seat some day -- when I decide what I want to spend my $$$ on).

I first tried the Burley brackets on the back shocks.  They lowered the bike about 1 1/2 inches, but I had some clearance problems... the rear tire would touch the fender on real hard bumps.

I now have the Arnott Air Ride system on my 08 with the 13" Alden shocks.  The Arnott system allows you to adjust on the fly and has taken care of the height issue.  And no clearance problems between the tire and fender - even with the shocks completely lowered.  I'm just not real impressed with the ride - little harder ride now.

I don't know much about the Legend Air systems.  There are a few site members that have the Legend Air systems on their bikes and I am sure they will help with any question you may have.

Monty B,, I had mine lowered prior to delivery by dealer, lo profile rear shocks, and frt forks with HD kit. It is perfect!! Handles great, and now I am flat footed on it, plus by doing it prior to delivery, it is covered under the factory 2 year warranty.

Would you please quote the part numbers for the changes? I had the '08 and was very unhappy with the seat height plus I did not want to lower a bike on the "old" Touring frame. The '09 is already a little lower (about one inch, according to HD specs), but I still may want to apply the same changes.

My 09 is a little to tall for me too.  I was talking with a friend that has the same issue and he says "Arlen Ness" makes an adapter that lowers the rear shock without changing the handling.  I have not looked but I intend to.
