Feuling Cam Plate, Lifters and Oil Pump Combo
« on: November 06, 2008, 05:26:42 PM »

Any of you guys running this combo in your Engines, SE 103s etc? Had in my old 95" and helped Oil Pressure at idle and lubricating the engine.

I am thinking of installing into my 04 B/B SEEG. Presently running, reworked SBC heads, Dave mackie 590G Cams. Rest engine stock. Any comments, observations?

Thanks,

geezerglide

Add to your list the bypass shim and it's a great combo.  Had it in my '04 and couldn't have been happier.

Works great on my 05 also (along with the bypass shim/spring)..

Do not have the cam plate.

No cam plate, but oil pump, lifters, and bypass shim. :2vrolijk_21:

Having to rebuild the pump in my 04

O rings are bad

23,000 miles

Oil pressure would drop to 0 when throttle was applied then it would slowly come back

I am installing Harley's new cam plate and oil pump in the new motor

I know Fueling recommends either stretching the bypass spring or installing the shim when using their pump with a Harley cam plate, but is the shim necessary with the Fueling plate?  Seems strange that they wouldn't supply the plate with the proper bypass valve and spring out of the box. :confused5:

My guess is Brian is remembering when we both were putting the 575 cams in our SEEGs about the same time.  Both used the Feuling pump and lifters but not the cam plates.  Pretty sure we both changed the spring at that time.

The Feuling cam plate comes with an appropriate spring though.  Not necessary to buy anything separately if you're getting the cam plate.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. :2vrolijk_21: I didn't use the Feuling cam plate but did buy the bypass shim from.... err... umm.... nevermind. ;) :D Just was glad I didn't get something I didn't need or wasn't used on install.

You got it right.  The stock plate and spring needed a little help.  Adding the Feuling pump to that wasn't a total solution.  Thus the new spring.  Going away from the stock plate (speaking to the older cam plates) got you a new/better proportioning valve (spring) as part of the new cam plate.

What about the SE billet cam plate and oil pump for the 07's and later. This is suppose to be a good system, better oil savaging, and you can run the new tensors, and chain if you stick with the chain drive.

That is what I have for this new motor.

Everything I have seen...read....been involved in with it seems to be as good if not better than the Fueling.

More reasonably priced also.

Agreed :2vrolijk_21:

Everyone, thanks for all of your input.

Will the Feuling Lifters "play nice" with the SE Billet Cam Plate or should one stick with the stock HD B lifters?

The Feuling lifters would work fine with the SE Billet Cam Plate - but I prefer S&S lifters...

Would these be the S&S Hi Performance Hydraulic Tappets, also what is the HL 2T Kit?

The reason I am looking at changing out the Cam Plate, Oil pump and lifters is that just recently at 2,900 rpms I am experiencing a Ticking sound. Wonder if I have a lifter going bad. Have yet to check the. It seemed to have happened after an oil change from Mobil V Twin, which I could not find locally to Amsoil 20/50 Motorcycle Oil. Eventually drained it out and put in HD 20/50 Dino Oil, so far still ticks.

Actually, I use the S&S lifters with travel limiters...  The HL 2T kit limits the internal travel of the lifter.  The lifters are hydraulic...the travel limiters reduce the amount of internal travel within the lifter from no hydraulic pressure to full hydraulic pressure...

Leo, based solely on anecdotal experiences if you do go Feuling for lifters I'd have to consider (and I personally use) their "standard" HP+ lifters rather than the Feuling "race" lifters.  The Race lifters are much more expensive.  I only personally know six or seven people that have used them.  But of that six or seven two have had lifter failures and a third (Howie here on the site) may have.  Over time I've known several more users of the HP+ lifters but don't know of a failure with them.

Sadunbar,

What is the model number of the S&S lifter you are referring to that would work well with the HD SE Cam Plate and Oil Pump?

what is the difference between the HD Oil Pump provide with the combo SE Billet Cam Plate and the Stock HD Oil Pump?

Thanks

2lanerider,

I sure do not want another lifter failure, last one was a Jims lifter in my Jims 120 which grenadied and tore up the Jims 120. They did send me a new jims 120 engine. However, i still was not happy.

S&S p/n  - S&S limited travel liters for Twin Cams  p/n 33 5351

and I would also use...

S&S p/n - S&S adjustable pushrod kit  p/n 93 5095    (the kit includes adjustable pushrods, pushrod covers, o rings and lifter block gaskets)
