GEAR DRIVEN CAMS IN 07 AND LATER
« on: November 15, 2008, 11:57:25 AM »

I was talking to my motor man abour the cams he wanted to put in my bike when he did the enhancement ,gear driven or chain. He said since harley went to the roller chain on 07 and latter he has left the chain cams in,and that with to new relaxed spec's on crank run out ,gear driven cams might make problems and tear up motors. He said the chain would be alot more forgiving and less sensitive to the relaxed crank runout. RIDE SAFE JDO

They're all sayin it, cause crank runout's a crapshoot, and your motor is safer with the chain drive. It can handle crappy runout. But if ya build a 0 runout bottom end, you can safely use the gear, which is still better than any chain drive! ;)

What example are you using to base your statement?

What example? 0 runout motors can handle a gear drive, which is more stable than a chain. What don'tcha get? I knew you were SLOW, but c'mon now! :nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss:

The motor man wasn't happy about the relaxed spec's he said harley should just fix the problem. When he's been doing the enhancements he has been boring cly's to straighten, thats another problem that they need to address. On all of the new cly's and old ones he has found that quite a few are undersized at the bottom of cly's which harley finally has given the ok to fix and was supposed to take a group to the vendor the get undersized problem fixed .I'm thinking (you think they have been checking because of all the cly   problems).  ride safe  JDO

I heard today the the cylinders now aren't bad, but the 110 pistons are junk. Not MO at all. I just heard it from the shop today is all. I believe they got that from the piston mfr. They said it's one of the worst pistons they ever made. Not their fault though either. They just make it to HD's spec. ;)

I may be slow...

But all of my bikes run all of the time...

How about you?  1 out of 5?

And exacty what is the basis of your claim of knowledge?

Give us the facts, not some hearsay.

Or are there facts?

Just sayin.

I knew something once.  Well twice actually.  I forgot it the first time and had to learn it again.  When I remember it again next time I'll have known something three times.

I was at the dealer yeaterday and the motor man said some of the new cly's were .003 undersized on top of being out of round. He said the pistons were really good on size. I'm glad I have a 5yr extention on my warrenty.  Ride Safe JDO
