CVO253 cams or 37g gear drives
« on: November 17, 2005, 04:43:54 AM »

I am putting together a CVO based 103 (HD 103 stroker kit) in a RK. From my last post regarding piston to valve running clearances I have now skimmed 40 thou from the CVO 103 heads as suggested by hdm88 and the DAWG. Whilst the engine is in bits would it be beneficial to change out the stock CVO253 for an alternative cam i.e. 37g. Is this cam suitable for a 103 displacment, are there any others I should consider, I would like to have a build which is torque orientated.

I would look at the 55g with it being a short closing intake for that stump type torque.  I would not be looking to use / keep / endorse under any circumstance the 253 from harley, it is strictly a pollution cam.  Now I would consider the HD-SE 251 as I have used this cam before and liked the way it ran.  Our heads that come on the SE CVO's support the 550 lift on the 55g and if you have added some compression back it should run good for you.

2 more cents for the pot.

You may want to drop a line to Bobby Woods , he's very thorough and his cams are wonderful . A TW5 might be a good way to go . I was lookin at a 37G and that was his recommendation.
