Replace the cam shoes.
« on: October 09, 2005, 04:16:53 PM »

My FLHT  now have 50,000 Km (about 31K miles) and I would like to replace the cam shoes.

It is difficult?

Can you give me some tips in order to make a good job?

Do you have a step-by-step file?

Thank You very much in advance.

My sentiments exactly, except.....  Don't be toooo enamored with buying "special tools".  Any old pin will do the trick when it's time to pin the cam shoe arms back.... ::)

Since I've never had reason in the past to remove my cams, I've only seen the primary cam chain tensioner.

Joker,
You can always just use the H-D instructions for Big Bore Kit, Stage II, which involves removing the cam tensioners, etc. and you only really need the special H-D tools if you're removing and pressing in new bearings, which isn't a bad idea if they're noisy. You can find the H-D instruction sheet on this website under the the instructions portion and just download and print. http://www.harleyhog.co.uk/techtips.htm   I would recommend borrowing a service manual and parts book if you can, it helps to ensure there are no 'extras' left over when your re-assembling. Most embarassing when it happens :-?
