Folks need to not obsess over oil temps on these air cooled bikes. The engine is designed to run an oil temp of 230°F in 70°F ambient conditions. This is running down the highway, not sitting in traffic waiting on a train. If you crank up the ambient temp or reduce the amount of air flowing over the engine and oil cooler, the oil temp is going to increase. As long as it stays within reasonable limits it's not something that should be causing lost sleep or massive amounts of spending to eliminate. BTW, why do you suppose H-D, the company that refused to "bless" synthetic oils for 30 years, decided to go to synthetic when they increased engine size to 103 and then to 110 in3? They obviously knew that the larger engines and leaner mixtures would result in higher oil temps, and that synthetics would stand up to those temps much better than the old dino oils.
A new engine, due to internal friction, will run a little hotter than a well broken in version. If you're running 230-240 on an engine with only 500 miles on it, you are doing just fine.
