New 110 Motor Question
« on: August 31, 2010, 11:56:42 AM »

On my new motor that I had put in my 2010 SEUC it is really running good with no pinging and is very strong. The only thing it does which is different then my 08 SEUC 110 is when the motor gets extremly hot when I come to a stop and put it in neutral I hear this loud clacking noise. It only does it when its hot outside and wont do it if it is cooler. Is this something of concern or should I just live with it?

LRebel,
OP is about 5-10psi. I am using Redline in Tranny and Primary. I have Amsoil 20/50 in the motor. I am thinking about using Redline 20/60 in the motor??? I think that clacking noise is Piston Slap when its really hot and the oil is really thin but I needed to hear some feedback.

Desertbear,

I recently had a ticking / clacking noise and thought it was piston slap turns out the horn was tapping one of the fins on the head  >:( and dinnged it pretty good.  Put in 2 spacers and it gave it enough room and stiffened it up that it no longer hits.

Unbalanced, I wish it was something like that with the horn but it definitely is coming from the motor only when it get's real hot. Here in the Desert that happens allot!!

Does it also happen under load? Could it be Compensator Nut backing off?

No it happens after riding and freeway time and get home and pull in the garage and put it in neutral. My oil temp is about 260 deg. Under a load it runs awesome but put it in neutral when its super hot it Clacks

typically you will only hear the compensator in neutral.   I would definitely have it checked as it could become a pretty big issue if it destroys the threads and such in the primary side.   I would also make sure you have the Screaming Eagle Compensator in there if you don't already.  Its worth the check.

Its a 2010 SEUC and I believe I have the new compensator. This is a new motor and I have just 2000 miles on it.

No howl in gear just Clacking when super hot and in neutral. Pull in the clutch and it quiets down. This reminds me somewhat of my original motor but my original motor would do this also plus I had allot of pinging and it was eating oil. This new motor is very strong and doesn't ping and isn't using oil at all but when it gets super hot it will clack in neutral. We have had a few days where it wasn't hot out less than 100 degrees and it wont clack at all. It just does it when its 103-110 outside. I guess I would Clack also if I got that Hot!! :P

There are reported issues with the SE compensator as well. Galling due to lube shortage.

Damn
Oh thanks Don.
That's just the news I wanted to hear. (read)
Lube shortage? More than standard fluid needed? Is there a fix or what?
