Average MPG?
« on: October 16, 2010, 01:06:44 AM »

I have Bub 7 slip ons and tuned with Screamin Eagle tuner my Avg MPG is 31-34 over the last 3000 miles. Is this about what I should expect?

obviously fuel mileage is dependent on your riding style and the type of roads/terrain your useing and any mods you have done to your bike

I must admit I tend not to bother controlling my fuel mileage, but I guess on average I would get 300 to 330 km (190/200miles) on a tank every fill up on longer journeys. What do we have 18.6Ltr/ 5 US Gallon tank? so I am guessing around 37/40 MPG, my 07 Springer has the heavy breather air intake, stock European exhausts, SERT.

Fuel mileage on a SE CVO Springer...hard to measure when you're generally at full throttle!!!!

Zinister,
That sounds a bit low to me. However, I m running bone stock on my '08.
I am getting between 38 and 43 down here in the flatlands of Fla.
Depends how nasty and mean I'm feeling and who might b watching.
When on a group ride I spend a lot of time in 3rd and 4th gear trying not to run over people!

My bike is stock except for the slip on pipes. It's an 09 if that makes any difference. Pretty flat around here but I do twist the thottle a bit. What the hell if I can't get better mileage then that it might as well get more power this winter!!!

gutted stock pipes on my 07, running a pcv with more fuel and timing and get over 40 mpg.  Plugs look perfect and it runs pretty good for a harley.

I get about 40 non-highway and 50-52 mpg on highway at 70ish mph.  Stock 2009 except for SERT and Vance Hines pipes.

Well, I checked the last tank and it was 29...MPG. Guess that means I have a thottle problem or a bike issue. It could very easily be me and most of this is around town driving.

I've been avg 36 (some local, some highway), but peaked once near 45 when it was mostly all highway.  Stock except V&H 2-1.

I do seem to have a problem with twisting the throttle the more if I ride this one.  Usually find that I'm leaning more to the mid range (RPM) when cruisin'.  Rarely get into 6th gear unless I'm over 80.  ::)

The T-Max is being installed as we speak, so will update once I get a feel for how it changed the MPG.

So, bike has been reborn and I've definitely been running it through all throttle positions and speeds with on off cycles to allow it to tune up after picking the bike up yesterday.

However, more to the point.  First fill up showed 27 MPG.  I can say that I was very heavy on the throttle at times and expect to get better if I actually just cruise.

Using map 530, haven't changed any of the settings other than the speedo calibration.

So the guy that installed the T-Max picked map 530 because it matched my TB, but the cams were different.  Looking at the map closer, saw that it had a much more aggressive timing curve.  Bike ran great, nice and cool, but was eating gas like crazy.  Last check I was down to 25MPG :o and that was with less throttle twisting.  I did note that the T-Max had to adjust the curves quite a bit too to tune to my setup.

So I changed it to map 558 which matches my setup much closer, liked the timing curve better and the afr curves looked better to boot.

Bike's back to 36 MPG which I can live with.  The T-Max hasn't had to change much on the curves either, so I'm sticking to this map.

Anyhow, I would say your gas mileage is not bad Zinister.  Guess you could stretch it out towards 45 if you were just cruisin at highway speeds.

I am running the Zippers T-Max with Zippers 50mm throttle body on my 96" bike with 26G cams. I get about 35-38 around town and 38-40 on the freeway. I've seen 42plus, but that was at elevation in the mountains of Arizona. I'm a little heavy on the throttle and run 3.37 gearing. And it's a full dresser pushing 900pounds and a batwing through the air. I'm sure I could tweak it and eke out a few more mpgs, but I am happy with the way the bike runs now.

But, ice, you don't run the 5 gal. tank dry do you?  Probably use 4 gal. or so if you stop when the low fuel light comes on and that would give mileage in the 40's.  :2vrolijk_21: spyder
