Larry Grodsky, Staying Safe and Rider Magazine
« on: April 11, 2006, 06:02:37 AM »

I just received this from a buddy who's a member of the Honday Sprot Tourers. What a shame. I'd always enjoyed Larry's articles and though he was one of the good guys.

"It is with heavy heart that I must tell you that Larry Grodsky of www.stayinsafe.com and his by-line "Stayin' Safe" in Rider magazine has died. I received a phone call from Ken Murray who is the head of HSTA's SAM program. Ken says he received word from Pete Tamblin who works with Larry in his on-road rider education classes. Apparently Larry was riding at night, last night in Texas and hit a deer. No word on funeral arrangements at this date but I'm sure Pittsburgh, PA will be crowded with riders wishing to pay their last respect!

That is the extent of what I know about this terrible loss to the motorcycling world. Larry was a great guy and a darn good instructor. His rider training at STAR'99 in Marietta, Ohio was a big hit. After that his training became in such demand that I could never get him to clear his schedule to attend STAR again.

We will all feel this loss! God speed Larry!"

Sorry to hear about this. My sympathy and prayers go out to his family and friends. This is a somber reminder of how quickly things can happen in our sport/hobby/passion. I attended my very first "Biker" funeral last fall to a similar circumstance. Had a fellow H.O.G. member hit a deer on his way from home one night, and while he was lying in the road a car ran over him. These types of accidents are one of the misfortunes of our sport/hobby/passion that we have to deal with. :(
