.

Just curious, were those BEAUTIFUL  Dave Mackie heads compatible with your stock automatic compression release, or did they utilize a manual release or other system of their own ?

Either compression releases would work....manual or automatic.

The combustion chamber looks awesome but does it help on a street engine? I did the same thing to the ports and CC on my 78 FXE and later learned that smoothing the ports is a bad thing due to reduced atomization. Just wondering if smooth CC's work well on the street. Of course he is looking for some outrageous hp so in this case it might be just what the Dr ordered. Just thinking out loud.

If you look closely at the photos, you will see the combustion chamber is polished, but the ports are not polished.  In fact, the ports have two distinct surface finishes for the specific intent of atomization...   :2vrolijk_21:

This motor ran 125/129... with 110 torque at 2500 rpm  (Mackie 598 cams).

There are different philosophys about combustion chamber finish.
There are also good reasons for altering the finish in the port in different areas. Those heads have the ACRs gone and there appears to be a manual compression release hole drilled, a little difficult to see.

Yes, these particular heads utilize manual compression releases.  The question of whether these heads are compatible with ACR's - they are.  Either automatic or manual compression releases would work fine.  I chose to use manual compression releases.

He could have done them that way I am sure but as they sit the chamber is closer now to symmetric and the material where the ACRs used to reside is gone. There is a flow advantage to this configuration compared to the former.

Yes, as I said, he could have utilized either acr's or mcr's with no issues.
