This method makes it real easy for H-D to continue to sell a ton of the "big bore" stage kits.  Just like on the 88's, where you only needed jugs and pistons to go up to a 95, now you will still only need the jugs and pistons to go up to a 103.  Pretty shrewd, when you think about it.  Lots of folks will shell out the bucks for the jugs and pistons, but not as many would want the bottom end torn down by your average dealer to install a stroker crank (or spring for the bigger pile of dinero).  I guess H-D is a little smarter than I've been giving them credit for lately.

No, the moco just realizes their dealers don't have time to do a crank install.  Think about it, when you go to your local eealer, how backed up is the service dept??  That's just doing oil changes and simple stuff.  Add a crank install to the mix and one mech is "out of commission" for at least 2 days.  They ain't got time.  Cylinders can be done in a day by a motivated mech.

i'm with grc, first thing i said was maketing geunius. less in parts and less in labor to do the top half of the motor. makes 96->103 much more attractive then 95->103
