Chrome peeling off rims
« on: April 01, 2012, 04:15:45 PM »

Just curious if anyone else has this problem.  Chrome "bubbles" are forming on my front rim and when polished the chrome flakes off.   :confused5:

Just put her on the lift, rear wheel looks fine.  Off to dealer next week to look at this.

I can see everybody scrambling to the garage to check their wheels. I know I am.

Not the first time of the "peeling chrome" wheels (and other MoCo chrome). :( Many of us in '04 had to have wheels and other chrome pieces replaced under warranty.

I'm not even going to go look at mine  :P I only have 500 miles on my scooter since getting it last August, so there is no way mine should or could be peeling  ::)

Well... I was going to create a thread... no need for that now... :(

I was cleaning the front wheel after installing the fender (see my thread) and noticed that the chrome on the wheel spokes is separating from the spoke... lifting.

I did not peel the chrome as I want the dealer to see it tomorrow (finally taking the bike in for the brake switch recall).

Looks like I am not the only one with this happening to their contrast chrome Agitators...

So?  They replace them for new ones, right?  I need to check the rear wheel just in case...

A few photos... these are all different spokes, not one...

On this last one, I was trying to raise the chrome a little bit for the photo and the layer of chrome just broke off...

Just got back from the dealer... brake switch recall done...

Wheel replacement covered under warranty. They placed the order for the wheel, bearings, and everything else needed.  :2vrolijk_21:

But wheels are backordered until around May. No issues waiting for it, what I wanted to make sure is that it was going to be covered under warranty, and it is.

Good to hear the warranty covers it which it should. Just sad to hear another problem with these ''special bikes''.

I thought about it... but I love the contrast of the chrome and black... and since I can't afford new wheels, I will stick with these... hope that the reason for the delay is to improve the quality of the finish... hey! I can dream!

I just love this bike... the feel of the road, the sounds it makes, how frigging cool it looks!!...and it is BLUE!! ha! Even the black is blue :2vrolijk_29:!  :2vrolijk_21:

I hope issues like these are the exception and not the norm.

I'm with you and hoping not the norm. Still haven't looked at the wheels with it raining. Want to look at it in the sun. Two amps, faded speaker grills, warped front rotors and chrome peeling on muffler tips and gas cap trim ring.  :nixweiss:

I'm with you, I love the chrome and black look, unfortunately the chrome adhesion is terrible and judging by your picture the surface prep looks terrible.  Obviously a supplier to HD central not having good quality control unless they make these in-house.  Either way this "should" not happen.

If I remember correctly the ESP doesn't cover this, better watch them. I had a front wheel that the chrome peeled on the inside of the wheel. I found out when my front tire went flat. They dismounted the front tire and pulled out a handful of chrome  :'(
