110 throttle body dumb questions
« on: May 14, 2012, 03:46:52 PM »

I am looking to put a bigger TB on my 2009 110. I currently have 54 cams, .030 cometic head gaskets & Drago's 2-1 Dragula exhaust. I am considering the SE 58mm EFI throttle body, SE 5.3 g/s injectors. I am currently running the fullsac stage II map. I know I need to get a dyno tune since
i installed the 2-1 pipe. The bike runs pretty darn good now. The only negative is I have had a pop a few times when I blip the throttle before a downshift. Very rarely! I may do some headwork and bigger cams but not in the next year unless she comes apart (26k now). OK so here are my dumb questions:

1) Is the  SE 58mm EFI throttle body, SE 5.3 g/s injectors the best choice?

2) If I change to this TB and injectors, I know I will need to go in tts and change the tb and injector selections, But will the bike be driveable until I get it dyno'd or will it need a tune Immediately?

Thanks guys!   FACE

Sounds like a good way to flush some money away. I would advice to leave it alone or do some headwork, change cams, add compression, and put it in GO mode.

Thanks thats what I needed to hear. Had a throttle loss problem last Friday 6 times. My mechanic at the stealer cleaned the TB plug and packed it with dielectric grease. He told me that's the first step and if it happens again they will run the full Diag. He then told me every other one they had was a bad Throttle body. Since I have a extended warenty I asked if I would gain anything with a bigger TB. Of course he said yes! So far I have not had another instance in about 100 miles. So I guess I will wait and see what happens. Thanks for the wisdom!  Face

Gotta agree with Dewey--I asked my shop about upgrading to a larger TB and injectors, but my tech recommended it not be done as unnecessary. Once he finished my build and showed me the dyno and AFR graphs, I had to agree.  Save the $$$.

Yeah I think I will just wait. I was just thinking ahead and if I have to have a new TB on warrenty I could pay the price difference and get the 58mm cheaper. I don't have a tuner locally so I need to keep it ridable until I can get to one.   FACE

Face,

If you talk to someone like Mike Roland and the like there can never be too much air going into the motor.   I am not trying to debate it just give you another view point.  As far as the throttlebodies go on a recent build I used the Horsepower Inc 55mm over the SE 58 mm.    They take your stock throttlebody and pull the electronics off of it and put them into a 55mm with a much larger manifold than the 58.  This setup uses all the stock components and allow you to continue to use your stock air cleaner etc.

HP Inc throttle bodies are a bit spendy but you quickly get over that when you get one in your hands. Very well made in mho.

HPI makes a really nice TB but keep in mind that you lose velocity when you go bigger which can hurt you in the low/mid range and can really hurt throttle response.

We use/stock HPI t/bodys.
Just intalled one of their cable-drawn 58's on a 113"/Wood 9F, build.
The 58 bbw's can be sent in to them, and they will install their proprieitary intake manifold, and intake manifold port size needed, upon request. :)

Very true...  Precisely why I run a 55mm HPI on my 120r motor..   :2vrolijk_21:

I'm just talking out my backside here, but while that stands to reason about lost velocity when using a carb, does it still stand to so much reason with port-injected fuel?

just to add to the backside rail bird contingent.. Im thinkin the velocity mentioned is only the air introduced to the throttle body via the venturi effect.. not the fuel being forcefed into the mix.. but I could be wrong .. if anyone knows from the head as opposed to the backside .. PLZ elaborate .. LOL .. BTW I run a HPI 55  and love it .. but ya gotta put somethin with it ..

I have ridden 800 miles since my problem and no further issues. I hope it was just the plug connection and a clean/lube/reseat fixed it. I added a small can of contact cleaner and a small tube of dielectric grease to my saddle bag! Since I don't need a new TB I guess this issue is dead until I decide to do further mods. Bike runs really good and with the exception of a dyno tune I should leave it alone?  :nixweiss:  Probably won't!    :nixweiss: I got that can't leave it alone syndrome! You can never have too much power! Right? Now if it comes apart (crank scissors etc...) that's different and its on!  :2vrolijk_21:  FACE
