SERT Questions..
« on: August 21, 2006, 08:42:26 PM »

Looking for some basic info on SERT.  I'll be getting my '07 CUSE soon and want to get the right stuff...

The latest version appears to be 32107-01F which from what I understand doesn't come with cables.

Am I just better off getting an earlier version with cables?

What's the advantage of the newer versions?

How and where do you get files to upload?  Is there a Harley site for this?

I'm confused. [smiley=confused5.gif]

You want the " F " version as it will have a map for your bike . the SERT comes with a CD that has the various maps which you load to your laptop...then down load to the bike.
dont have the part number for the cables...but they are @ $29.00

Unless you are going to be doing the install yourself and upgrading maps later you will not need the cables. Most dealers will have them to install/modify maps. Most important thing you will need is the interface so that you can load/update software/maps to the ECM (now and later). Had no idea that they (MoCo) were no longer supplying cables w/SERT. Wonder if this has anything to do w/EPA and not wanting end user to do mods to his bike, or could this be another case of greed and being able to sell cables separately? [smiley=nixweiss.gif]

I think we all know the answer to that don't we!  Moco knows how to merchandise for sure.  Nothing special about the cables.  Over the years of buying computers and peripheral devices and then replacing them with newer models I've probably thrown away several sets of the same cables.
Except, what about the 4-pin one that connects to the bike?  Parts guy at my dealer mentioned 'no cables' about a month ago.

My disc has a "G" on it... dated 6/07/06, and came with cables.

From the looks of things, I take it that I can buy an older version with cables and get the $20 update disk and spend less $$?

maybe I should have made this a general question.
I just got the SERT today, and am I reading the manual right, it dont stay on the bike after you tune it?
and can you please tell me which map you used. I have Rinehart Tru duals & Arlen Ness Big Sucker A/C Stage 1.
mine is the "E" version.
Thanks

When you ask "it doesn't stay on the bike after you tune it" are you referring to the map? If so the map stays on the bike. The SERT gives you the ability to create a map that will be specific to your mods and with a good tuner will produce the optimum HP/TQ from those mods. Along w/that it should keep your A/F mixture at optimum level also. If you were to change/upgrade mods down the road the SERT will allow you to re-tune the bike for those mods again giving you the optimum performance and A/F mixture. Hope this answers your question.

If you can find them, and if the $20 is less then what the MoCo is charging for cables. Unless you plan on creating/changing maps yourself then don't worry about the cables whoever tunes your bike will have them, and/or if you have a friend that has the cables you can use theirs. Just make sure you have the interface and you'll be good to go.

Yeah - what Fired00d said, the SERT connects up to the bike so you (or more likely your tuner) can re-programme your ECU to suit the mods you have.

Then you disconnect it and Ride On (to paraphrase Kuryakyn)

When you make some other (hopefully) performance enhancing mods you can couple her up again and rewrite the ECU again as required

This is as against the PCIII which stays connected and mounted on the bike to "fool" the ECU to give more fuel to compensate for the additional air you will be flowing (with your free flow Air Filter and mufflers) and so maintain the Air/Fuel ratio at 13:1 or whatever

Cheers

That's right you disconnect cables and the map stays loaded. Think of it as software on your computer. Once you do the initial loading you take the disc out of computer but the program is still there.
