Broken Throttle Cable
« on: October 29, 2012, 11:51:43 AM »

Riding the Blue Ridge about a 100 miles in it and my throttle got stuck I twisted hard and the cable broke. It was the return cable. The cable itself was rusted under the faring, It a 2007 bike with only 20000 miles, garage keep. been in rain a few times. I do wash it. but I've had bikes for years and never had one to rust in two. Any one seen this.

Are the rubber "condom like" grommets intact and still sealing around the adjusters? Is there a small gap in the control housing that would let moisture seep in and run down the cable? Do you use a power washer? Have you lubed the cables regularly?

Yes the return cable is always the one that goes first. Had the same problem a couple years ago! :(

The rubber does slide down even on the new cable I installed on the pull side last year. It was replace because I got it hot and it melted on the inside. I will start lubing them for now on. What's the best lube for these cables
