Vibration EVO Soft Tail
« on: March 08, 2013, 01:25:45 AM »

Hi Guys,
My son lost his TC Soft Tail. I want to buy him a EVO SoftTail that is not balanced like the TC B motors. How bad do they vibrate? For the right price he can live with it. Looking for a 97-98-99 EVO SoftTail Custom or a Night Train.
Thanks,
Ltank

After being used to a balanced TC Softail, he will really notice the vibrations on an Evo Softail. They might not bother him, but the ones I have ridden felt pretty harsh. The TC-B engine is much easier on the body.

If I recall the Softail line has the TC-B due to solid mounting, the soft mounted engines (Dyna, Touring, etc) had the non-balanced motors. Loved my 1998 FXSTS and would do it again.

I didn't find it that bad on my '98 Fatboy.  It was actually smoother at idle than my SERK.  It's when you get up in the rev range that things start to become more noticeable.  One useful feature - when both mirrors suddenly drooped you knew you were nearing redline!  I actually found the suspension more of a hinderance to distance than the engine.

I had a '93 with some upgrades, it vibrated pretty good, my wife couldn't take it for long at higher revs... lol. My handlebars where solid mount and Arlen Ness steel grips, I still had no issues riding 400 miles. My thumb did get bothered occasionally. I would say he will love it too. I put over 50,000 miles on it, sold it last summer for the CVO ultra.

Had a '72 shovel that would rattle your teeth, couldn't see in the mirrors. Had a 99 evo and only felt it in the bars.

Had a 99 Softail Heritage Classic, I put a lot of miles on it and at the time I did not realize how much it vibrated until I purchased a 05 Ultra.  If you do not know the difference it is not bad, like stated earlier the mirrors will tend to vibrate all over as you hit the higher RPM.  I gave it to my wife when I bought the Ultra and she put over 20,000 miles on many of those on long rides and never complained.
